It's very embarassing that even Sirius and Remus knew that Snape was jealous of James' talent at Quidditch. I reckon James and Sirius never seriously targetted Snape before their fifth year, most likely the worst they had done was jeering at him. But they became more hostile to him after they realized that Snape was jealous of James when James became the "big Quidditch hero" and he began following them like a puppy trying to expose Remus' furry little problem. 7 years bullying = fandom invention
LMFAOOOOO
This entire ask is giving me second-hand embarrassment 😭🤚🏼
Aight, let’s get to work:
It's very embarassing that even Sirius and Remus knew that Snape was jealous of James' talent at Quidditch.
1. Do you have any proof that Snape hated James—not because he fucking assaulted him—but because he was “jealous” of James’s skills on a sport he canonically could not give a single shit about? Or your only “proof” is Remus—who lied to Harry onetwothreefourfivefuckingthousand times about the whole Marauders 🔪 Snape fiasco—saying it once to Harry in PoA?
2. “It’s very embarrassing that even Sirius and Remus knew” man you say that like Sirius, Remus, and James weren’t the closest of friends.💀💀
3. The only thing embarrassing is you genuinely believing that Severus fucking Snape who invented his own spells, rewrote the entire N.E.W.T.s Potions book to the point of surpassing his professors/the curriculum, had a thirst for the Dark Arts and mastered it, all at 16, would actually be jealous of some arrogant brat on a broom who could prance away into the forest with his stupid transfigured water goblets (no offence Professor McGonagall I luv your lessons). Is your already-minuscule brain addled, anon?
I reckon James and Sirius never seriously targetted Snape before their fifth year,
You—a Snape-hating-Jim-Jam-worshipper—reckon that? Well, that’s enough proof for me! Totally not flat-out contradicted in canon.
most likely the worst they had done was jeering at him.
Really? You’re really gonna read over SWM (assuming you can read) and think this only happened once?
Let’s just ignore all of the hints in the text that were clearly trying to spell out that SWM was not the first time this happened. Let’s ignore that the first thing Snape did was draw his wand and the speed in which he did so (“as though he were expecting an attack” anon, darling, who the fuck expects an attack if not attacked regularly?). Let’s ignore the fact that Lupin frowned when James and Sirius merely turned to look at Snape, meaning he knows something bad’s going to happen, further suggesting this has happened before. Let’s ignore the fact that the crowd looked “apprehensive, others entertained” meaning they know shit’s about to go down.
Is all this not enough evidence for your good-lil-doggie-self who sees Snape antis’ idiotic posts and recite them to me—anonymously, at that—in my inbox? The author herself plainly calls it “relentless bullying,” meaning it happened a lot over a long period of time. That, alone, contradicts your ENTIRE ask, anon.
And, even if what happened in SWM “only” happened once……… how the fuck does it make what happened any less bad? Do you not realise that you sound a tad psychopathic? But, fortunately for you, anon, many more victim-blaming dunderheads in this fandom seem to share that same broken logic with you.
But they became more hostile to him after they realized that Snape was jealous of James when James became the "big Quidditch hero" and he began following them like a puppy
1. Proof? Do you have even the tiniest shred of proof to support your teeny widdle Snape-hating catechisms, of which I’ve assumed is the thousandth time you’ve parroted these words?
2. You do realise that the timeline makes no sense right? You’re saying that Snape being “jealous,” the Marauders “becoming more hostile” to him and Snape following them for a completely justified reason all happened a little before the werewolf prank? I’m certain it was said that James joined the Quidditch team in their second year (I think it was stated somewhere? In PS I think? Please correct me if I’m wrong), but didn’t Snape “begin to follow them like a puppy” around the beginning of fifth year? Didn’t you claim earlier in your oh-so brainless ask that “the worst they had done was jeering at him” before fifth year? Have you forgotten that the gap between the werewolf prank—which came first—and SWM was 7 months apart? But in your ask you make it sound like they never really BULLIED (by the way, don’t go telling people what “real” bullying is, all kinds of bullying are valid and hurtful) him before SWM. So, answer this, anon, what did the Marauders do to Snape in those entire 7 months that wasn’t to be considered “serious bullying” but also made Snape extremely cautious and expectant of attacks in SWM? What’s that I sense? Aha! Self-contradiction.
3. “like a puppy” damn, have some creativity please. At the very least add a “hopeless” or “pathetic” to the insult. Just try a little harder, will you? But then again, you’re a James stan. They’re the least creative people in the universe—easily told by the plot-device character they stan.
4. Ahh, so obviously a teenage boy being jealous means they deserve to be almost mauled to death by a werewolf and sexually assaulted and choked (with soap). Yes, yes, how DARE he experience totally normal feelings from a teenager! He must be punished!
trying to expose Remus' furry little problem.
Tell me, anon, why would he go after him if the Marauders never “seriously bullied” him? Why was he so willing to take such drastic measures? Why would he be so interested in them? Why would Sirius have the awful werewolf plan on just some student he didn’t have a history with and only mocked sometimes? Why would Snape deem it necessary to create spells for self-defence if they didn’t do much to him?
Maybe… maybe… just MAYBE… it was because the bullying canonically started before that, and they bullied him too ding dang much to the point where he wanted them to be held accountable for their horrible behaviour so they’d get off his back. Y’know… it’s not like it was literally spelled out for us (it was, I was being sarcastic. Making this clear for you as I think an idiot like you would actually believe I’m being serious).
[And honestly? Sirius doing that on some random student he only “harmlessly” bullied from time to time rather than on a student he absolutely loathed makes him so much worse. If THAT is what he does to random students, you can only imagine what he’d have done for someone he despised.]
7 years bullying = fandom invention
7 years bullying = literal canon.
It all started on the train, you tosspot. James heard that Snape wanted to be in Slytherin, and so he immediately picked on him. It’s painfully obvious that the bullying went on for years. That’s putting aside the fact that the author of the story stated that this was the case.
Hate asks like this are both so irritating and hella entertaining. It’s just so amusing to see you guys contradict yourselves so bloody much. Anon, be a deer (🌚) and go preach your delusions to someone who actually gives a fuck. And be grateful, cause I wasted my precious time preparing this… all for a dimbo like you.
Have the type of day you deserve!

be my baby
wrote this one for @acciosnapes 2.5k writing challenge! it was inspired by like one line in the song “be my baby” and it goe entirely out of hand long lol. but i had fun writing it and i hope you guys enjoy!
You’re not quite sure how it happens. Well, no, that’s a lie. It happens slowly. Very slowly. It starts with the Chief coming into the library sporadically, arms laden with borrowed books. Books that he most certainly wasn’t checking out for himself.
He doesn’t say much those first few times beyond a polite, short greeting and a quick welcome to Hawkins. You always smile at him - a bright grin that you know makes you look younger than you are. Your best friends in high school always called it the Man Catching smile. It doesn’t seem to be working on the Chief. Not that you’re going to give up. Soon enough, the Chief stops for a little bit longer, chatting with you casually. He asks a little about your background, stiffly - like he’s trying for nonchalance, but failing. It’s absolutely endearing and you find your Man Catching smile morphing into something a little more real, a little more dopey. It’s your Falling in Love smile and you’re terrified. It’s been a long time since you’ve smiled that particular smile and you never imagined that Chief Jim Hopper would be the one to draw it out of you again. And then, suddenly (or it feels sudden, even thought it’s been weeks), Hopper’s standing at the circulation desk, hat in hands, stumbling over his words. You wait patiently, biting your lower lip to prevent a smile from stretching across your face. “I was thinkin’, well, only if you want, would you,” his face is pink, moustache twitching as he finds the words he wants, “Thinkin’ about dinner. Maybe Friday night? I could pick you up?” “Sure, Chief,” you grin, unable to hide your excitement. “See you at 7.” He smiles back, eyes crinkling, and gives you a little salute before he turns to leave. He’s about halfway to the door, when you realize, and shout after him, “Hey! Hopper!” “Yeah?” He turns, a little bit of an excited smile on his face. You hate to see it fade, but laugh a little as you say, “Forgot to pay your fine. Am I gonna have to call the police?” Hopper laughs. He strides back over and leans his forearms on the counter, angling his upper body towards you, “Tell ya what, sugar, you call the station any time and I’ll be over before you can even finish a sentence.” You place the back of your hand against your forehead and pretend to swoon. “Gee, a charmer, aren’t you?” you tease, breathless. “Only for you,” he winks, digging into his pocket and dropping a few singles onto the desk before strolling out of the library. Watching him leave, you gather the bills and shake your head. Jim Hopper’s going to be fun. ——— As the weeks go by, you and Hopper fall quickly into a pattern of flirting and kissing in his Blazer. Every time you leave the car, he gives you one last kiss, only for you to plant three quick kisses on him in short succession. It’s become a habit now, a fun way for you to get the last word in. Hopper doesn’t mind, his hand usually wraps around your wrist as you’re kissing him, the contact grounding you. Despite your desire to do so, you haven’t slept together yet. You know he has a daughter - Jane, even though everyone seems to call her El - to think about and you don’t mind that he wants to make sure you’re serious before introducing you into her life. Sex is a surefire way to complicate all of that and you’re content to let Hopper take the lead here. Even if that means disappointment sometimes. “Hey, we’re still getting drinks tonight, right?” you say into the phone, cradling the receiver between your shoulder and cheek so you can wash dishes as you talk. Hopper sighs heavily and your heart sinks to your stomach. “I’m sorry, y/n. I’m...El’s havin’ a...difficult time today.” “Oh,” you sigh. “That’s alright. You should spend time with her. I’ll be here.” You hope the forced lightness isn’t obvious, but from the soft sigh Hopper lets out, you know it is. There’s a scratchy, ruffling noise and you know he’s just rubbed his hand over his face. “I promise I’m gonna talk to her. She knows I’m seein’ someone and she’s gettin’ ... well, she’s gettin’ worked up about it.” “Worked up about me, you mean?” It slips out, the correction and frustrated sigh. You know that El is important to Hopper, and she should be, but you can’t help but feel a little tired of all the dancing around, all the broken dates and hiding in the car. It takes a toll on you. Hopper’s silence is his answer and you bite your lower lip. “It’s fine, Jim, really,” you try to sound convincing. “It’s not like this was a serious thing anyway.” You hate the flippancy of your tone and the fact that you’re saying the words at all. Because it’s not true. Not even a little bit. Sure, maybe it started as a fun fling - flirting and kissing and teasing each other - but somewhere along the line, you fell head over heels for Jim Hopper and now your heart is breaking. “Come on, Y/n,” he says and you can hear the scowl in his voice, can picture the way his brow will darken, “don’t say shit like that. You know I like you.” “Sure, chief,” you reply flatly. The line is silent for a few moments, both of you frustrated and stubborn. Eventually, you crack. “Look, I...wasn’t exactly planning on telling you this so quickly, but I like you, Jim. A lot. And I respect that you need to take El’s feelings into consideration, but I really would like to know that she’s not going to sabotage whatever this could become.” You close your eyes and drop the dish you had been rinsing into the sink so you can lean your forearms against the sink. Your heart is beating wildly in your chest and the longer it takes Hopper to respond, the worse you feel. “I’ll talk to her, swear,” he vows. “You gotta know that I don’t wanna mess her life up any more than it already has been.” There’s something a little desperate and scared in his tone - a plea that you understand something he can’t tell you. Your heart cracks a little. “She’s only got me,” he continues. “I think she thinks she’s losin’ me.” “Please, Jim,” you murmur, “make sure she knows that I want to know her just as much as I want to know you. I’m not trying to take you away.” “I know,” he replies. “I’m gonna talk to her, sugar. I promise.” “Okay,” you sag a little. “Okay. I’m sorry that this is how the night went.” You hear his hand scrub over his face again. “Yeah, me too. Was lookin’ forward to seein’ you try’n keep up.” His voice lifts into a teasing tone and you can’t help but crack a small smile. “Drink you under the table you mean, right, old man?” you tease right back and his laugh booms in your ear. “Watch it,” he warns, a low growl. “Night, Hop,” you say quietly. His voice goes soft. “Night, baby.” ————— True to his word, Hopper tells El that you two are dating. Or on the road to seriously dating. He’s vague about his actual phrasing, leading you to believe he stuttered and tripped over his words, confusing the pre-teen about your relationship status. You’re not confused about his feelings any more - well most of the time. He’s still closed off about some things and you’re not always sure what’s going on behind those blue eyes of his, but there’s no denying the physical spark that had existed when you finally slept together. You know that you should’ve held off a little longer, knowing your feelings were too strong to avoid heartbreak, but goddamn did the man look good in his uniform. He keeps dates more regularly now, whether or not that’s a sign of El’s acceptance or of Hopper laying down the law, you’re not sure. He still hasn’t said anything about you actually meeting El - dodging the question by doing something phenomenal with his fingers. But you have seen El around Hawkins - briefly and when she’s riding her bike with her group of friends. She’s got a gorgeous smile and laughs easily when one of the boys says something amusing. Your heart clenches a little when you see her because you really just want to get to know her and make sure she knows that you’re not trying to steal away her dad. It’s exhausting, waiting for Hopper to finally let you meet her, so you take matters into your own hands. She’s in the library on a rainy Tuesday, roaming the stacks with Max Mayfield, and you can hear both girls giggling as they look through the books. It brings a smile to your face as you remember rainy days spent in the library with your own best friend, Lissy. You really should give her a call someday soon and plan a trip to visit her in Chicago. Eventually, she and Max make their way to the check-out desk, where you’re working for the time being since your co-worker is out. You smile at the girls and Max smiles back, even as El shoots you a scowl. “Find everything you were looking for, girls?” you ask, your tone carefully controlled. “Mhm,” Max nods. She grins, “we’re in a prank war with the boys so we needed some outside resources.” And sure enough, the stack of books on the counter is geared towards pranks and jokes, some advertising gross schemes and others promising pranks so funny even the victims will bust a gut. The titles alone make you laugh and you wink conspiratorially at the girls, “I can’t wait to hear how you defeat the boys in this prank war.” El raises an eyebrow at you. “Why would we tell you if we win?” You suck your lower lip in between your teeth and force a small smile. “Well,” you say carefully, “I think your dad might tell me, but I’d like to hear it from you, since I’m sure you guys don’t want the chief knowing about some of these pranks.” You tap a fingernail against the hard cover of one of the books, the noise echoing a little. Cutting her eyes at her friend, Max frowns. Then she looks between you and El briefly before letting out a little gasp. “Oh! You’re the lady Hopper’s dating,” she breathes, connecting dots in her head. Her eyes widen and she scoops up the books quickly, “I’m, uh, I’m gonna go to the bikes. Meet ya outside, El.” She scurries off, clearly trying to avoid the tension. Looking surprisingly like Hopper, despite the lack of shared genetics, El rolls her eyes. “You don’t need to know anything about the pranks,” she says shortly, following Max’s trail. And it’s weird, because a cup full of pens and pencils falls over, spilling the writing implements all over the desk and floor, even though you hadn’t been near it. Sparing the mess a brief glance, you call after the teen. “Jane!” She starts at her name - hesitating as if she’s not used to hearing it. But she stops. Her back is to you and she looks tense, like she’s preparing to take off any second. But she stops. “I would really like to get to know you,” you say, softer than your initial call of her name. “I know you may not be thrilled with me and all, but I promise that I’m not the bad guy here.” El gives a tiny little jolt, doesn’t reply, and marches out of the library. Your shoulders slump in disappointment as you watch her meet up with Max under the library’s awning, both girls flipping up the hoods on their rain jackets and climbing onto their bikes, riding away. “Shit,” you groan, dropping your head to the desk with a painful thud. That could’ve gone better. ———- You don’t hear from Hopper that night, which concerns you until the front page of the next day’s Hawkins Post announces a major accident had taken place the night before just on the outskirts of town, keeping Hawkins PD occupied all night. Folding the paper and dropping it on your kitchen table, you make a mental note to call Hopper later and see if there’s anything he needs. The library is fairly quiet for a Wednesday in August - there are a couple of scattered groups of moms and kids, older folks, and potentially mischievous teenagers milling about, but no one is really bothering you for help. You’re working on a crossword puzzle when a shadow falls over the desk. “How can I help you?” you ask, flipping the paper closed and looking up. It’s El. “Oh!” Her eyes are a little wide and she’s chewing on the inside of her cheek. “Hi, Jane,” you greet her quietly, offering a soft, hopefully welcoming smile. “Hello,” she greets you back and shuffles a little, clutching her hands in front of her body. “I...can we...” “Would you like to go get lunch?” you interrupt quickly when it becomes clear that El is struggling to articulate her thoughts. She nods, grateful. You drop an “Out for Lunch” sign on your desk and tilt your chin at her, “Any particular place you’d like to go?” El shakes her head. No. She falls into step next to you as you walk out of the library. “Okay, maybe the diner?” you suggest casually, even though your insides are doing cartwheels at your excitement. El nods at your suggestion. Okay, seems like she’s not going to be doing that much talking, you think. But at least she made the effort to reach out. That definitely makes you feel much better. You let the silence last until you get to the diner, not wanting to push El into a forced conversation. Smiling at Dot, the ancient waitress that always flirts with Hopper when you come in together, you and El slide into a booth, taking seats across from each other. “So,” you smile, “what do you feel like having?” “Waffles, please,” El replies, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear. “Breakfast for lunch, I like it,” you reply, ordering two plates of waffles with a side of extra bacon. El gives you a shy smile and then, as if remembering that she’s supposed to not like you, it fades into a faint scowl. She crosses her arms over her chest and stares at you. You blink placidly and sigh. “You know, I really like your dad, Jane.” Her frosty exterior softens a little. “He spends a lot of time with you.” Not as much as you would like, but hopefully that changes soon, you think. “I don’t want him to spend less time with you,” you promise. “I think, if you and I got along, it would be nice to hang out, the three of us.” “Why?” El asks. “We don’t need you.” She says it flatly and if her words are meant to hurt, it works. You suck in a breath and swallow heavily. Reaching for your water glass, you take a slow sip, trying to formulate a response. Eventually, you flatten your palms against the tabletop and look steadily at El. “I don’t know what you and your dad need, but I want to continue seeing him and I *want* to get to know you,” your voice is steady and you try to convey all of your feelings in your tone. “Your dad makes me happy and I think I make him happy too. I’m not trying to take him away, Jane, I’m just trying to bring him a little extra happiness.” “Dad is only halfway happy,” she says and it sounds like a question, her eyebrows scrunching together and head tilting to the side. You’ve never heard the expression before, so you shrug. “I think he’s very happy with you, sweetie. But I’d like to bring a different happiness to his life.” She heaves a sigh that seems far too heavy for her skinny frame. Mirroring your position, El drops her palms to the table too. “I want Dad all the way happy. But...” she trails off, looking a little unsure. “But you don’t know me or trust me,” you finish quietly. “And that’s okay. I don’t expect you to even like me much right now. But, Jane, all I ask is that you try and get to know me.” You settle into quiet now, letting your words sink in. El looks at you, studying your face, looking for any hint of deception. You know she won’t find any since all you want is to get to know the most important person in Jim Hopper’s life, but you can’t help but be a little unnerved by her intense gaze. “El,” she says after a few moments of silence. “You can call me El.” “Yeah?” you ask, a bright grin splitting your face. So much for playing it cool. She nods, giving you a tiny smile in return before digging into her waffles. Your own smile doesn’t fade as you begin to eat - peppering the silence with easy questions about herself and school that El answers with only mild reluctance. By the time you walk out, nearly an hour later, it feels like a new page has turned. ———- “Have a good lunch break yesterday?” You look up, startled by Hopper’s sudden appearance. He’s in full uniform, his hat resting lightly on the counter. “Maybe...” you hedge, leaning forward a little. “What did you hear?” “Heard,” he gives you a roguish smirk, “you’re goin’ on lunch dates with someone that’s not me.” “Oh yeah,” you grin, “remembering” you lunch date. “Real cute, cuter than you. Better table manners, too.” “Hey!” Hopper yelps, mock offense forming on his face. “I taught her those table manners.” You laugh outright, a sound that has a smile overtaking Hopper’s face. He pushes a hand through his hair and fidgets, a little nervously. “It was okay?” he asks quietly, worry flashing in his eyes. “Yeah,” you reach out to squeeze his hand, “it was okay. I know you were hesitant, but I really wanted to... to not hide us.” He nods. “Well, whatever you said, worked. Kid voluntarily asked if I was gonna see you again.” “What’d you tell her?” you ask, hoping your voice doesn’t betray the thudding of your heart. Every muscle in your body feels tense, coiled tightly as you wait for his answer. Hopper’s smile is wide and the skin around his eyes crinkles. “Told her she’d be seein’ a lot more of you if I got a certain answer to a question I had for ya.” You can’t hide the smile that blossoms across your face. “Question?” you ask, raising a curious eyebrow. “Yeah,” he leans forward, “question. Thought about it an’ I was hopin’ you’d be my girl.” “Your girl?” Smiling, you repeat Hopper’s question just to make sure you heard him right. He nods. “Yeah, I wanna see more of you,” he pauses, smirks a little, “Stop hidin’.” “I like that,” you reply happily. “I’m more than happy to be your girl, Jim.” Hopper leans further over the counter and cups your cheek so he can kiss you quickly once. You laugh against his lips and kiss him back, three times in quick succession. He pulls back and says, “Dinner, Friday night. Me an’ you. El’s hangin’ out Max’s for the night - sleepover.” “Pick me up at 7,” you reply, your tongue darting out and licking your reddened lower lip. Hopper’s gaze tracks the motion and he winks. “Yes ma’am,” he gives you a little mock salute and heads out of the library. You watch him leave, a goofy grin on your face and a blush heating your cheeks.

Paper rings; part 10
Jim Hopper x original female character
A/N: lots of fluff, lots of angst I live for it. I love it. Mentions of some rough shit, experiments and thing. General cussing.
Tumblr media
Trying to explain to Joyce what you all saw inside that lab was difficult because it still didn’t make sense to you. You were sat on the couch trying to make sense of everything while her and hopper were at the table discussing some of the things he saw.
“A drawing? You didn’t say there was a drawing” you heard the tone in Joyces voice change and you knew she was concerned that’s where her son was being held.
“It wasn’t Wills drawing…” that was the first clue to you that it wasn’t a cell for Will. He could really draw and you knew if he was being held somewhere and given the option to draw his would be very detailed.
“Are you sure? Just maybe look at these” Joyce went into another room to grab something
“I promise it wasn’t Joyce. My whole glovebox is filled with drawings from Will, he drew me something at Bennys every time we went. I could spot it, I promise”
The gears in Hoppers head were turning and it’s almost like you could see the lightbulb go off before he jumped up and ran over to the coffee table “earl said he saw some kid with Benny the night he died right?”
You sat up to follow his train of thought “yeah he wanted me to bring clothes remember?” You watched as he pulled out the article about Terry Ives missing daughter Jane and how she sued Brenner but nothing ever came of it.
“What if this whole time we thought we were after Will but we’ve been chasing the wrong kid?”
You stood quickly beginning to pace the room “I mean it’s possible. you know Will, he’s the sweetest kid in town. Maybe he ran into Brenners missing kid on his way home and tried to help them?”
A few more theories were passed around before everyone decided to part ways. The Drive home was a somber one, giving Joyce the news that Wills body was fake and she was right really felt great but not being able to tell her where her son was made things tense and you felt like your head was still spinning trying to grasp what you and Hopper saw in the basement of Hawkins lab.
When Hopper made the turn onto your street dread began to seep into your bones, after everything you saw and what the lab did to you both and also knowing someone had been in your home at some point to plant a bug made you feel so unsafe in your own home. “Hey Jim…” you asked so quietly it was almost a whisper
“Yeah…” he looked up at you with tired eyes as he put the car in park in front of your house.
You began fiddling with your hands “do you think that you could maybe stay with me tonight?” You finally looked up to meet his gaze “I don’t really feel safe being by myself…”
He reached out to grab your hand “of course doll” and you released the breath you didn’t even know you were holding.
When you stepped into your front door both of you just stopped, you left so quickly for Joyce’s today that you completely forgot the mess that was made looking for the bug. You looked at Hopper and groaned “I’m too tired to deal with this right now…” and he chuckled “as long as the couch is clear, I’m good”
You turned abruptly when he said that “wait, no…” and he turned to you confused “I uhhh I was kinda hoping you would stay with me in my room tonight…” and he shook his head yes as he rubbed the back of his neck “yeah…yeah that’s fine if you’re okay with that”
You led the way into your room before you realized his flannel was laying right in the middle of your bed. You snatched it up quickly but you could tell by the look on his face you were already caught “is that my shirt?” He was smiling and your face was turning a bright shade of red “I mean, I might have grabbed a flannel on my way out the morning after we got drunk and I stayed over. It’s fine I’m just gonna change real quick.” And you made a beeline for your dresser but you could still feel his eyes glued to you as he sat down on the bed to take his boots off.
You stood in front of your dresser for a long time, you normally slept in a long shirt and underwear but didn’t know if that was acceptable right now but you were exhausted and couldn’t think much of it so you just grabbed what your normally slept in a made your way to the bathroom. When you came back you actually had to take a minute to stand at your door. Hopper had always been giant but something about him laying in your bed made him look extra huge, he was laying on his back with his eyes closed and his arm up behind his head. He must have sensed you staring “you good?” He groaned, eyes still shut.
You stammered a little at him catching you but tried to play it off “you gonna sleep in jeans?”
“ I uhh didn’t know if I should or not” he finally opened his eyes and sat up.
You laughed as you came around on your side of the bed “take your damn pants off Hop” and you lifted the covers to get in and face your back to him giving him some privacy. Although you’re certain you hear a “yes ma’am” under his breath.
You feel the bed dip down beside you and try not to smile at the thought of Hopper in your bed. When he’s finally settled behind you just a little too far away for your liking but still close enough to feel the heat radiating off him you can almost hear how hard he’s thinking before he says it “can I…” and you cut him off quickly “please” you feel his large arm come to rest over your hip before he pulls you back into his chest and between being encased by his warmth and his scent and finally feeling safe sleep takes you quickly.
When the sun finally starts to peak its way into your curtains you groan at the intrusion and snuggle farther into your pillow, except you realize that it’s not in fact your pillow. At some point in the night you must have rolled over because now you’re cuddled into hoppers chest, his large arm wrapped around you, his hand squeezed over your hip and your leg thrown over his hip. You almost feel bad being awake and still laying like this but it’s the best you’ve slept in a very long time and you feel warm and safe and you lose track of your thoughts when he groans and pulls you into his side tighter before rolling to face you and wrapping his other arm around you too.
“Can I shower?” He groans into your hair and kisses your forehead. Never moving from his current position.
You’re ashamed at how taken aback you are by his sleepy morning voice. It’s octaves lower than normal and strikes a chord somewhere deep inside your core “yes…yeah of course” you finally answer into his chest before you hear him chuckle and feel it vibrate through your whole body.
When he finally releases you to get up and shower you actually whimper at the loss of warmth, and him of course. “I’ll make it quick” he says before exiting the bedroom. You know he plans on meeting Terry Ives today so you jump up and head into the kitchen, you start a pot of coffee and throw some eggos into the toaster before you head into your room again to get ready. Luckily your second day curls weren’t terrible so you throw them up into a clip and let some frame your face before you throw on an outfit and do a quick rush of your makeup.
You had just finished frying some bacon and throwing it on a plate when you hear the bathroom door open, you had already finished eating and were working on your coffee when he rounded the corner and saw you. He came over and picked up his cup of coffee before leaning over and planting a kiss in your hair “thanks doll but I gotta take this on the road. We gotta get moving” you just nodded for fear of your voice letting it slip just how lovely this domesticated morning in the middle of chaos was. He snatched up one waffle before putting a handful of bacon on top and sandwiching it between the other waffle. He took a giant bite and let it hang in his mouth while he had his coffee in one hand and his other was on your lower back ushering you out.
The ride over to pickup Joyce was quiet, you were giving him time to eat his breakfast in peace and honestly giving yourself time to wipe this stupid smile off your face. You were staring out the window when you felt his large hand slide over your thigh “you okay?” He sounded so sincere. You looked at him still sporting this goofy grin “yeah of course…” he smiled back at you “last night was just..” his smile actually grew “yeah…it’s the best I’ve slept in months” and you placed your hand over his and squeezed.
Picking up Joyce was easy and you were on the road again in no time. A small part of you was so surprised when you got back into the car after letting Joyce in the backseat and Hoppers hand was right back on your thigh. Jim had decided to stop at a pay phone on his way out of town to call an old friend Frank to see about getting Terrys address, leaving just you and Joyce in the car.
“So you and Hop huh?” Your head snapped around to Joyce “I don’t…I mean I’m not” you groaned when Joyce began to giggle “Hey, I think it’s great. He’s a good guy, he deserves someone like you” you smile at her unsure of what to say so she grabs your hand “he’s lucky to have you, so am I. Thank you for everything, for believing me and for helping the boys” you grab her hand tight now “you never have to thank me for that, I love those boys to death”
You see Hopper exit the phone booth and Joyce let’s go of your hand to wipe some tears away and when he enters into the car she asks “did you get it?” “Yeah I got it” he responds before pulling back onto the road.
You all crowded onto the porch of the address Frank gave you hoping this was the right place, you took a deep breath as Hopper knocked. A woman answered the door and she was rightfully timid as Hopper explained he was the chief of Hawkins and we needed to speak to Terry. The woman finally agreed to let you in but she mentioned that we were about five years too late to talk to Terry. You admit that confused you because if Terry was dead why would this woman allow you all into her home but as you rounded the corner you somewhat understood.
“This is my son Will, he’s been uhh missing for about a week now” Joyce began explaining to Terry but she never responded and never looked at the picture, Hopper attempted to ask about Brenner but Terry still never made a sound.
“What’s wrong with her?” Hopper asked Terrys sister.
Before the sister explained anything she had you all sit down
“She was a part of some study in college”
“MK ultra?” You asked leaning forward interested in if Terrys family had any idea the type of study she was in.
“Yeah that’s the one! Started in the 50’s it was supposed to be ramping down when Terry Joined but the drugs just got crazier. They gave her LSD and They striped her down naked and put her in isolation tanks. Trying to expand the mind…” After explains the study Hopper asked about the CIA being involved but the sister just blew that idea off “she didn’t know she was pregnant at the time…”
You remembered seeing the story about the daughter “Jane right?” You asked and the sister shook her head yes. Joyce asked about pictures of Jane but she told you all that Terry actually miscarried in the third trimester.
When Terrys sister invited you upstairs to show you the nursery she had created hoping one day Jane would come home your heart broke for her “she says her kid was born with abilities you know telekinesis, shit you can do with your brain”
“Do you think it could have been real? Having the kid?” Joyce asked the sister but you knew the answer before she even said it, you knew what people who didn’t believe anyone looked like and she was it.
When you left Terrys house and got back into the car you couldn’t help but feel guilt, here you all were drumming up old memories for Terry but you also felt hurt. You hurt for all three of them, Joyce, Terry and Jim. They all three had lost children and you’re heart split open when you heard Hopper talk to joyce about a chance, we still had a chance to save Will and he would do anything to just have a chance with his daughter. You reached out your hand for his and pulled it into your lap and squeezed it three times, you’re sure he didn’t know what it meant but you did and that was enough. You were staring into his hurt filled eyes when you heard his radio crackle to life. You wanted to roll your eyes at the thought of the station not being able to handle Jim not being there but then you heard it.
“There’s been a fight, it’s Jonathan Byers”
“WHAT?!” You and Joyce both yelled together.

Blog Progress Update (Travel Blog Style #17)
Pearson is drunk, Grimshaw is screaming at Mary-Beth for looking in a mirror, Karen is screaming at Grimshaw for killing Molly, Dutch is screaming at Grimshaw
I HATE IT HERE
This whole time.. I never realized the gang DOES know Arthur is sick… like … Strauss says something when you start the last Money Lending mission. And he says it like he KNOWS Arthur isn’t just sick. Like he knows Arthur is terminally ill.
And I just tried to talk to Javier.
A: ”Can we talk?”
J: "I don't have much to say to you right now."
Okay Ouch..wtf did I do to you?! is this cause I just threw out Strauss???
A: “Guess I’ll leave you to it then.”
J: "You just worry about that cough."
BRUH
Like… ik he's 1000% loyal to Dutch but like… that HURT. Like my eyes actually started tearing up. How dare you, Arthur doesn't deserve this kind of treatment…
Jack just said "I don't like waking up in this place" yup now I'm crying. Me too bud..
"I wish people would stop being mean." ME TOO BUD T_T
I get so upset in this chapter because Arthur literally has known Dutch the longest out of anyone there, John second, and people are doubting both of them like they don’t know Dutch better than everyone else… but I mean I get it cause Dutch saved most of them and they feel like they owe him but… fuck man…
Did Marko’s second mission, Charlotte's first and second mission, All of Edith's, Finished Jim Boy Calloway’s, and I did one of Hamish's and I’m about to go fishing with him (Arthur is so happy to have a friend...). Before that I went and got that Legendary Bear that I honestly just forgot about… I did it for you Hosea (#1 dad. Miss you man…)
I’m going to get through the rest of the game tonight… it’s 2am… okay I’m gonna TRY… I wanna at least get to the build a house montage. (and then stop Immediately after O_O)
Okay that above paragraph did not happen and was written two days ago…
Got a lot of other stuff done though... Now time to get John outta jail.
DONE. and now Micah and Dutch are out of camp! WOO!
Helped Beau and Penelope one last time. Now I just need to finish all the other strangers missions that I can (Charlotte, Hamish, Mr B& Mr W, William,)
I almost have Doverhill’s post done, and I’m excited to post it cause I edited gifs (really I just put filters over the video and made them into gifs… but still! I think they look nice..) just need an outside shot which I swear I had but must’ve deleted…
I also wanna see about making more gifs cause it’s fun.
Damn it I tried in vain to kill the boar before it could get Hamish… Arthur was so excited to do stuff with Hamish. I’ll take care of Buell... (I just wish John could get him...)
I’m hoping that in a few hours I’ll have finished Doverhill, Willard’s Rest, Hamish’s House (I’m pretty sure I can go inside now), Catfish Jackson which I never got the outside of, I’m gonna see if I can get a few Lake/Pond posts done to. I’m also working on Outfit posts of the outfits you can get in the stores (like I list each part that you can change on them and which parts are exclusive to the outfit, etc.)
(I do also have to finish the rest of the legendary stuff cause I need Arthur’s drawings of those.)
I’m also working on a master list of audio clips from @scarfacemarston ‘s blog (I asked and they said it was okay ^_^ thank you again) I’m sorting through them all, separating them on a google doc so i can make the page and posts for them. There’s clips from April 2020 to now(March 2022) and going backwards I’ve gotten to mid June 2020 lol so that’s a bigger process of this project but I’m excited for it (Cause I also get to listen to a bunch of audio from the game ^^ and I can do it on my laptop anywhere as opposed to just my room)

Annabel Lee; Matthew Gray Gubler
a/n: I usually hate wedding imagines BUT fuck I watched Jim and Pam’s wedding scene again and just had to. Then I got carried away...
description: just getting married to mgg
Tumblr media
You ran your fingers down your corset, gripping the red roses in your right hand almost too tightly. The doors that led inside the hall were shut, but you could hear the murmur of the guests awaiting the ceremony to start. Your bridesmaids- your sister, and Kirstin- and his groomsmen- Shemar and Steve- stood before you, casually chatting. Everyone was waiting for your cue, which you weren’t quite ready to give. You needed a few more seconds to breathe.
Your dad (or whomever, I know some of y’all got daddy issues) tapped your elbow, “You ready, honey?”
You looked at him with wide eyes, feeling your breakfast in your throat. “I don’t know. I feel like I’m gonna vomit. Everywhere.”
Kirstin overheard your confession. She turned on her heel, worry in her eyes. Your sister followed her over to you. The three of them crowded you. Your sister set a hand on your shoulder, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothings wrong. I’m just nervous,” you confessed as your hand landed on your skirt. You kept feeling the dress as if to ground yourself.
“For what?” Kirstin prompted.
You shrugged, “I don’t know. Like, everything. Like, yeah.”
“Girl,” Shemar interjected, “that man is so in love with you, it makes me sick. You’ll be okay.”
Steve added, “Oh, for sure. He never shuts up.”
Your face flushed and a shocked-in-love expression flooded it, “Really?”
“You look like the equivalent of the gushy eyed emoticon,” your sister laughed. “I think you’re okay.”
“Yeah, I think I’m okay,” you breathed out.
Your sister smoothed your skirt before returning to her position with everyone else. Your dad tucked his arm into yours, “You ready?”
“Ready.”
The doors swung open. Steve and your sister began to float down the aisle, but stopped halfway down. You couldn’t see him over Steve’s head, but you saw Paget at the top of the aisle, smiling proudly. She glanced down to her left and you saw just the slightest bit of brown hair flop in the air. You smiled widely, but became confused when the organ stopped and an upbeat song came on.
Your sister spun around towards you. She leaned around Kirstin and Shemar and winked. Suddenly, she started dancing to the Bruno Mars song. You groaned, tossing your head back and leaning your weight in your dad. Your forehead landed on his shoulder and he chuckled, patting your hair.
You peaked up to see Kirstin and Shemar join their flailing dance movements. Some of your family and friends were pulled up to dance with them. Your eyes flicked across the room, watching everyone engage in the loving moment. Your eyes found the front of the room and landed on Matthew’s.
He was grinning dumbly, hands crossed in front of his tux. He had shaved for the occasion and his hair was short. But, his personality still showed through the little crooked bow tie at his throat and his bright red Converse. His left foot was tapping along to the song and he tossed his head back to laugh. When his head came forward again, his eyes met yours.
He literally gasped, eyes widening. He hit Paget with his shoulder, nodding towards you. She looked at you and you briefly met her eyes, smiling so wide. She gushed to Matthew about you, and he only said, “I know.”
Your dad pulled you forward, urging you to dance with everyone else. You resisted a little, embarrassed by all the eyes that were landing on you. But, you grabbed his hands like you were a little kid again, giving in the numerous spins he tucked you into. He dipped you, letting your head fall towards the floor as a guttural laugh fell from your lips. When you were lifted back onto your feet, you shook your hips and spun around on your own.
You had made it about halfway down the aisle and the song was halfway over. You let go of your dad’s hand, finding Matthew’s eyes again. You needed to touch him, to hold him. You balled up your dress in your hands and ran up to the risers. He grinned down at you, about two steps up from the floor.
“Well, hello,” his cheeky voice remarked. You held out your hand and he didn’t hesitate to grab on. You pulled him into the aisle, his other hand coming to rest on your hip. He swung you round and round, rocking side to side as the song continued on. Everyone looked towards you, still dancing.
Eventually, the song winded down. Matthew held your hand as you climbed up the steps, feet aching in your heels. He straightened out the bottom of your dress, drawing awes from the crowd who was settling down. You let out a hasty breath, feeling somewhat sweaty from the dancing. Matthew stepped up beside you, Paget standing between you.
“Alrighty, then,” she remarked, brushing off Matthew’s shoulder. The room laughed a little at what had just happened. Once they silenced, Paget looked between the two of you. “So, I have the awesome honor of officiating these two’s wedding. Matthew officiated mine and Y/N sang a song at the reception. They hadn’t been together yet, but at the reception, they danced for hours. I remember talking to Gube after the night ended and I mentioed Y/N. He told me that he was planning on going to buy her roses the next day, that he was going to show up at her apartment with the proposition of going to Vegas and getting married.”
Matthew held your eyes in his, lips pressing together as a sheepish expression came over him. Your eyes widened, squeezing his hand in yours. “What?” You mouthed. He shrugged, eyes flicking away cheekily.
Paget laughed at your interaction, “Yeah, don’t worry. I talked him down. I told him to bring you a coffee, considering she’d drank plenty that night. I told him, coffee and roses. And ask her to dinner. He called me the next night and told me that they were going to be painting birdhouses that weekend. I told him that he was literally the weirdest man I had ever met. And then he called me again on Sunday and told me that they’d kissed. And, despite me urging him to wait, he went out and bought this ring.”
Paget held up the ring that was going to be on your finger room. You gasped, looking up at the piece of jewerly. Tears flooded your eyes at the realization. Matthew tugged on your arm slightly, drawing your watery eyes back to his.
Paget continued on through her speech, though you could barely focus on anything but his eyes. They were so, so thoughtful and loving, and you just wanted to hug him. He kept you grounded by rubbing his thumb over your knuckles, the rough edge of his thumb soothing your senses.
When it came time for your vows, you thought you were going to burst. You went first, “Um, okay, I had it written down, because I knew I would ramble, but I kinda just want to ramble.”
The guests chuckled at your words. You continued, “When I first met you, I thought that you were just the coolest person ever. You wore these big, colorful shoes and patterned socks which you always made sure were visible when wearing pants. You had all these cool kimonos that you’d wear on set all the time and you always made sure everyone laughed at least once a day, no matter if the scene we were shooting was sad or terrifying. I was so intimidated by you because you were this really successful actor who everyone in Hollywood says is some heartbreaker, but then I was eating cheese on set and you came up beside me and started talking to me about birds. Like, rattling off stupid facts about birds. And I think that’s when I was in love with you.
“But of course, I didn’t really know it. I was kinda just blindly finding companionship in you. And then, one day, you walked into my trailer one day after shooting and told me about this Edgar Allen Poe poem. You pulled out your journal and showed me this pen drawing of me, like, my face! And beside it you had written, ‘tell Y/N about Annabel Lee.’ And that’s when I knew I was in love with you.”
You took a moment to sniffle and draw your thoughts. You noticed Matthew’s bottom lib wobble and a thin line of tears fell down his chin. You reached up and wiped at his cheek with your thumb. He leaned into your hand.
“Matthew, everyday with you is a literal adventure. You force me out of my comfort zone in the best way possible. Without you, I think I’d still be avoiding phone calls with people in general. You’ve taught me to be fearlessly brave and to love myself more than anyone else. Except you, of course. You, I love more than anything. More than everything. You are larger than life and bigger than any stupid argument we could ever have. I love you.”
A bout of silence followed as Matthew attempted to refrain from sobbing. He thought about what to say before beginning with, “I bought a pair of socks with dinosaurs and hearts on them just because of you and this stupid song you showed me about dinosaurs being in love. This was before we got together. You told me how much you loved them and even though they cost like $20 and I couldn’t find them again, I let you have them.”
You gaped at the man, a slightly annoyed smile present. Of course. He winked at you and went on, “I always did stupid stuff like that. Like, going out of my way in the morning to get you those mini pancakes from the coffee shop that I lied and said was right across the street from my apartment. You didn’t know that until. You also didn’t know that I went to three different states to find you a birthday present that was literally just a blanket. But it was so worth it to see you curled up on the couch with it. And then, of course, there’s the little things, like filling up your car with gas and pretending like you just hadn’t known you didn’t use that much. Watering your plants without you knowing. Always making sure I buy you the same type of food I’m getting even if you’re not hungry because you are hungry.”
Laughter came again. Matthew shook his head, eyes crinkled, and he continued, “I’m not boasting about how great of a partner I am. No, I’m just telling everyone, telling you, that I love you. I would and do go to the ends of the Earth for you because you are my world. I don’t know how else to end this than to end it with our true beginning; ‘For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams of the beautiful Annabel Lee.’ You are my Annabel Lee.”
Everything moved on pretty quickly as you recited more repetitions and slid the rings onto each other fingers. Eventually, you were being prompted the room as Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Gray Gubler.
“That sounds ridiculous,” he leaned into your ear.
You giggled in response, squeezing his shoulder. Paget announced that you were to kiss and, as if he couldn’t be more dramatic, Matthew swooped you across his body. He dipped you, leaning down as you held onto his hand and shoulder and kissed you deeply. The room erupted into applause.
And you lived with no other thought than to love and be loved by him.

You asked for prompts, so maybe Rhodey/Tony with the Avengers meeting Rhodey for the first time and realizing how devoted Tony is to him? Like Tony has been doing that Trademark Stark thing but then the team sees him with Rhodey for the first time and realizes THIS is the real Tony.
thank you for the prompt!!! this was so much fun to write, i hope you enjoy!!
Tony Stark is an enigma.
He wears expressions like they’re masks, and wields words like they’re weapons, and takes people apart with one piercing glance.
He’s more than a man, he’s a paradox; he isn’t made of flesh and bone and blood, no, Tony Stark is made of gears and wires and lines of code that run the solutions to every possible problem before they happen.
It’s terrifying.
Natasha looks at him, and to her, he’s a mirror; Tony reflects what they all want to see. And mirrors are not glass. She can’t tell what’s real, can’t see through him at all, and she hates it. It makes her feel weak. She tries breaking the mirror, breaking Tony, but it doesn’t work. Even at his lowest point, sitting across from her and Fury in the diner, he reflects what she wants to see–a broken man. And yet, not a broken mirror.
Steve doesn’t know what to think of him; he is nothing like Howard, and yet he is everything like Howard. Steve sees Howard in the way Tony balances five conversations at once, the way Tony knows he’s the smartest person in the room and acts like it, the way he carries himself with his hands constantly in motion. It makes Steve ache for the time he left behind.
Bruce only sees an equal in him; their minds attract each other like magnets. But magnets can repel each other, can become polar opposites so very easily, and as Tony starts pushing, Bruce lets himself be repelled, because it’s easier than answering Tony’s questions that strike too close. Bruce doesn’t know how he does it, how he can find someone’s heart in minutes, especially because Tony acts like he doesn’t understand people at all. It’s fascinating, and confusing, and not a magnet Bruce wants to draw in.
Clint thinks it’s all a show; Tony acts like the people he grew up around, performers who used flashy tricks to distract the audience from their real movements. Tony is a magician, Clint realizes, after he reviews the footage of the days he missed, and sees things no one else caught, sees the bugs he plants and the seeds he sows, because Tony was too busy distracting them all with his words.
He’s a myriad of things, a collection of lies and half-truths, and the Avengers don’t know what to do with him.
-
“I don’t know what I’m gonna do with you,” Tony hears, and he knows he’s covered in engine grease and that there’s probably some in his hair, but that’s not really the point. Then there’s arms wrapping around him, a chest pressing to his back, lips against his temple, the smell of jasmine lotion surrounding him, Rhodey slotting into place behind him.
It’s embarrassing how long it takes Tony’s brain to register the facts, and he turns around so quickly he gets whiplash.
“You’re home!”
“Clearly I’m less interesting than that engine that you’re working on.”
“I haven’t slept in two days,” Tony says, just to watch Rhodey get that crinkle in his brow. He kisses it. “I missed you.”
“Missed you too, genius.” Rhodey’s lips trail across the exposed skin of his shoulder. “You’re wearing my sweatshirt.”
“When am I not wearing your sweatshirt, honey bear?”
“When I’m taking it off of you,” Rhodey says, punctuating it with a bite.
“Oh, yeah, fair point–“
Rhodey cuts him off with a kiss.
-
Steve walks in on them first, in the kitchen, where Tony’s sitting on the counter with his legs crossed under him, drowning in clothes that are too big for him and mismatched socks, wearing a smile that’s as blinding as the sun.
He feels like it’s a moment that needs to be captured in time, but only for the two men in front of him, a moment that he wasn’t meant to see.
Tony doesn’t look anything like Howard as he draws Jim Rhodes into a kiss.
Steve leaves, and if he draws the smile on Tony’s face and gives the picture to Jim later, that’s between them.
-
Natasha finds them during movie night, when Tony’s sleeping on top of Jim Rhodes, head pillowed on his chest and arms wrapped around his waist, bare feet hanging out at the end of the blanket that covers them both. The movie plays as background noise; even Natasha can see that Jim’s only got eyes for Tony.
When she comes closer to pull the blanket over Tony’s feet and Jim mouths a silent thanks to her, she sees Tony’s face, half-pressed into Jim’s neck.
He looks content. No mirror to reflect what she wants to see, only glass to show her what Jim Rhodes always sees.
Jim’s gaze shifts to meet hers.
“Wanna watch?” he asks softly, motioning towards the T.V. with a brush of his hand across Tony’s back.
The offer is surprising, but what’s more surprising is when she sits down, and Jim lets her put Tony’s feet in her lap to keep the blanket from slipping off of them again.
Neither of them watch the movie much, and Natasha realizes, as Tony starts to stir, and is greeted with a soft kiss from Jim, that the mirror doesn’t need breaking to show her the real Tony Stark.
-
Bruce comes across them in Tony’s workshop, where Tony’s lying on his stomach across a workbench, focused on a holographic blueprint of the War Machine armor, arms and legs dangling off the edge of the bench like he’s a little kid. Jim Rhodes’ fingers are loosely entwined with Tony’s from where he sits on stool, looking at the same hologram but in a smaller size.
Before Bruce can say anything, Tony rolls off the bench with no verbal warning; Jim catches him anyway.
They stand up together, and then suddenly they’re working together in a seamless dance of passing parts and trading kisses, the moon orbiting the earth, or the earth orbiting the sun, and Bruce thinks that maybe he does want to draw in the magnet that is Tony Stark.
-
Clint’s the last person in the Tower to see them, and when he does, they find him, rather than the other way around.
He’s sitting on the roof, because open air clears the clutter in his mind, and he hears the door open behind him.
They don’t even notice him, too wrapped up in each other, Tony tugging Jim outside, his quips and tricks and words turned soft, and they’re met with a smile that’s just as soft. None of it is a show, not for Jim Rhodes.
Clint clears his throat.
“You two should get a room.”
“Christ, birdbrain, warn a guy!” Tony yelps. His hand doesn’t leave Jim’s, and his face doesn’t change, and Clint thinks that maybe the curtains have closed for real, and the show is over for the Avengers, too.
-
Tony Stark is still an enigma.
But now, the Avengers understand him a bit better.
They understand that he belongs to Jim, and that Jim belongs to him, and that they are each other’s. They understand that if they don’t try to learn who Tony is, it won’t work, because the only person who can know him without any effort is Jim Rhodes. They understand that Tony will be what they want to see, that he will be abrasive and sharp, that he will be polarizing, that he will put on a show, unless he is with Jim Rhodes. They understand that Tony is not what they thought.
It’s still terrifying.
But it’s terrifying because Tony’s love is terrifying, all-encompassing, and they’ve only experienced a fragment of it.
It’s a miracle, they think, that Jim Rhodes hasn’t burned up yet.
Then again, Tony Stark protects his own.

Y/N(reader) with wings hcs
No one knows what the fuck you are, not even you
Ya got wings. That’s it.
Are you an angel? A faery? A phoenix? Who knows
You woke up one day in a forest remembering nothing
But you had wings
And then you got shot with an arrow
You ran away and hid in a cave
Darkiplier spends most of his time around you studying you
To see what you could possibly be
He still doesn’t know
He’s settled for calling you a “cryptid”
He’s slightly annoyed with the feathers you leave around the manor
He won’t tell you bc you can’t control that and it’d be rude
You read together in his study on occasion
You sit on the floor bc your wings get uncomfortable in chairs
In sympathy, he also sits on the floor
You think it’s sweet
You told him so and he sputtered out a “shut up and read your book”
He’s fairly fond of you
You’re good company to keep around
Wilford was the one who found you
He was walking through the forest, as one does, when he saw GIANT feathers
Naturally, he followed them
He found you in a cave with an arrow in your shoulder
He took you back to the manor and patched you up
He begged Dark to keep you there
He promised not to kill anybody for a month
He made it 15 days, which is a record
He’s very protective of you, not letting you out a lot since uh… hunters
You are his Sweet Little Songbird, light of his life, wind in his sails,
if anything happens to you he will kill everyone in the manor and then himself
He helps you preen a lot
His hands are very gentle, surprisingly
He spends the most time with you out of everyone
You play games, talk(well, he talks to you), and just hang out
He loves and adores you with his whole heart
Actor tolerates you, or so he says
He’s jealous of your wings
HE’S supposed to be the mysterious, sexy one!
But ok, yeah, you’re pretty interesting
He uses you in short films sometimes bc… well… wings
There are alot of things you can do with wings, surprisingly
He took you out into town one night
He shoved the wings under a thick jacket
You guys bought some clothes and food
He cut holes in the clothes for your wings, grumbling about a “waste of money” and “you never go out anyway”
but he enjoyed spending a bit of time with you
Wilford nearly killed him(again) when he found out
He likes venting to you bc you just nod without really listening
As I said, you’re good company
Yancy thinks you’re nice
He felt a bit… threatened at first
Ya got WINGS, of course he’s cautious
But they are very pretty
And he likes to use you in choreography
People always comment on how realistic the wings are as Yancy leads you away
You don’t judge him for killing his parents, he likes that about you
You don’t know. You could’ve done something bad. You don’t remember
He likes cuddling bc you wrap your wings around him and he feels safe
He also helps you preen… sometimes…
He’s… really bad at it...
You like listening to him sing
He sings you lullabies at night
You’re very close
Illinois is very fascinated with you
He’s convinced you’re a fairy
He’s seen quite a few of those
You tell him you don’t know, and he goes “a LiKeLy StOrY”
He likes drawing you
You’re very angelic
“Oh, maybe an angel then…” He says, like an idiot
He takes you with him on a few adventures to fly him over pits and stuff
He’d never admit it but he has a… THING about heights
It’s called a phobia, you egotistic maniac
You try to help him with it
You never get that far off the ground before he’s screaming to be put down
He appreciates the effort
He gives you things he finds on adventures that are pretty or remind him of you
He infodumps to you about curses, and archaeology, and adventuring, etc.
Magnum is uh… well, he’s Magnum
He figures you’d be useful out at sea
You can find nearby land, ships, or treasure by flying, of course
He didn’t take into account the fact that you don’t really… fly that often.
So it turned into you just stretching your wings instead of looking for loot
Once you fell overboard
Everyone was like “eh, they can fly, it’s fine”
Then they realized that you probably can’t since your wings might be wet
Magnum LEAPED into the fuckin water and THREW you back on
He doesn’t take you on the sea as much anymore
sometimes you talk about life, treasure, love, y'know the usual
He’s very Father Figure-ly
Bim isn’t sure how to feel about you
You are a person. With wings. What’s he supposed to do about that
He’s friends with Wil, so has to tolerate you at least.
He tries to make conversation, but it doesn’t always go as well as it could
You don’t have much to talk about, and some of his topics worry you
Mostly you two just kinda… exist in the same general area
Sometimes he’ll discuss what he should do on his show
You don’t have many ideas
But you’ve gotten an idea of what it is, and sometimes give a suggestion or two
He appreciates you for that
He tried to get you on the show once but Wilford refused
You kinda wanted to, but whatever
You’ll hang out sometimes too
He’s very entertaining, he has to be
Eric is kind of scared
Not that you’ll hurt him, that he’ll hurt you
That happens a lot to people he likes…
He eventually starts hanging out around you
You don’t ask bad questions, and you distract him from his dad
He talks about animals with you a lot, and how he wanted a farm
You bought a cowboy hat and gave it to him and he cried
You also gave him a stuffed cow one day
He hugged you for a long time
You two cuddle a lot bc the boy needs SAFETY and SECURITY
You wuv each other(platonically or otherwise)
Dr. Iplier doesn’t bother you, mostly
He appreciates that you keep to yourself
He has his work, that’s what he’s focused on
Sometimes he’ll see you when you try to find Wilford or get some food
He tries to get a good look at you without looking suspicious
It doesn’t work, he always falls over
He once gave you a “physical”
It was mostly to just figure out what you were
You seemed mostly human based on the results
But goddammit you had WINGS
They had their own function but were sort of like an add-on to your body
He was slightly disappointed you weren’t gonna… turn into a whole bird
You tolerate each other
Google fuckin’ hates you
He’s completely perplexed by you
Which he is never because he is the most intelligent being on the planet
So he assumed he could figure out what you were
Turns out google fucking sucks at figuring out things people don’t already know
So he hates you. Like a lot
He’s tried to kill you multiple times
But his objective is to destroy MANKIND
You are not included in that
BECAUSE HE DOESN’T KNOW WHAT THE FUCK YOU ARE!!!
Also Wilford almost killed him for it
So yeah he just kinda hates you
You’ve tried to get along with him but he just wouldn’t
He finally talked to you when Bing called him a little bitch
Still hates you, but can tolerate your existence now
Bing fuckin’ adores you
You are just wonderful to him
You can FLY??!! You have WINGS???!!!!!
You don’t really care that he is an artificial BEING????!!!!!!!!
You’re perfect
He does Sick Tricks™ to try to impress you
They never do
You appreciate the effort
You don’t see him a lot, but when you to it’s very entertaining
He taught you how to skateboard
You kinda sucked but he’s very supportive
He likes just hanging around you
It’s the only time he ever chills the fuck out
Everyone’s thankful to you for that
Your entire dynamic is “what if... i put... my minecraft bed... next to yours? haha just kidding... unless?”
The Host doesn’t really care about the wings??
I mean, he can’t see them, so… what’s the big deal
You appreciate that
He still does the uh… narration thing… with real people…
The stories end better now
You convinced him to make the stories end better
You sat with him to make SURE the stories end better
He also started writing novels recently
You help with plot and character development
He appreciates that
The Jims… don’t really care about you
I mean you’re interesting, of course
But they physically Cannot get a clear picture of you
Even if you agree to sit still, it just doesn’t happen
It is always, ALWAYS blurry
They eventually give up and leave you alone
They do spend a bit of time with you
You help them with demon episodes sometimes
You don’t do much, but they like the emotional support
King of the Squirrels is… well, he’s him
He doesn’t… he doesn’t do much
He hangs out with his squirrels. That’s pretty much it.
You just started hanging out with him one day
He didn’t mind
You two feed the squirrels while sitting by a tree
He lets you wear his crown sometimes
He draws his squirrels, and lets you see the pictures
He teaches you how to draw them
You two don’t talk, really
You just sit. And hang out.
He doesn’t really smile, but you can tell when he’s happy with you

Such a Joker (53)
Part 52 Here!
~o0o~
I pack two sandwiches in my purse and proceed to cover my hair with the large silk scarf. "Where are you sneaking off to?" Babs asks walking past me and downing a drink. "Secret date? I figured you would get sick of the pale faced clown." I smile at my hands. I could never tire of my boy. I'm as crazy as him, maybe more, but he would never turn me away, and I could never leave him.
"I'm married." "Even better." I narrow my eyes at her. "Babs, I'm going to see my dad." She widens her eyes. "Now you're asking for a death wish." I walk out the door, my heels clicking every step. "If you say so."
I walk into the GCPD and can sense the chaos and tension thickly canned in the air. Not seconds later two individuals start brawling over bread. "Hey! Break it up!" My father pushes them back. "For all the new people here... everyone is welcome in Haven, but there are rules. And one of them is we leave the fighting outside. Government already thinks we don't deserve help. We have to show otherwise. Gangs want to tear themselves apart outside, that's their business. In here, in Haven... we help each other survive."  I hum with a slick smile as the two dispute the issue and the tension falls. Saved for another day.
I walk up to him nudging his arm. "Nice speech. I think it worked." He turns to me and gasps, but recovers quickly. "(Y/n). You're so big. No... Just-" "Pregnant, dad." He nods smiling. "So what happens when they find out the government abandoned them?" He sighs, shaking his head. I pat his back. "Come on paper man. You need some real food." I pull him into his office and remove the disguise. "Italian sub for you, and tuna for me." "You hate tuna." I smile sitting down. "They don't." I pat my swollen tummy. "So there are two of them?" I nod smiling.
"And you're happy? He treats you well?" I nod again smiling at him. "Of course he does. He's not a monster, dad." He grabs my hand over the desk and squeezes it. "I don't... like him. You know this. He destroyed the damn city for christ's sake, but he is the father of my grandchildren, and the husband of my only daughter, so I can promise you... I will never kill him." I kiss his hand and smile. "Who knew that'd be so comforting to hear."
~
I walk into the elevator with the smile ghosted over my lips. Crackling from the speaker erupts my mind causing me to shake and grab the wall in fright. "Aw, honey, I'm sorry." Ecco's voice pipes up from the speaker. I wave my hand in front of the camera with a smile. "No worries. All good here." I laugh placing a hand on my stomach. "Where is Jerimiah?" "Working down below. Would you like me to get him?" I smile up at the camera. "Let me go down."
"Uh... Miss, I think we should wait. He doesn't want you around the-" I press the button to the bottom floor faster than light. "Oops," I smirk up to Ecco as the elevator skips the main floor and descends below.
The two doors slide open revealing a steamed room with the funk of hard labor. I step on the uneven ground and see Jerimiah fanning himself as he watches his workers. I rest my hands on his shoulders and kiss his cheek. "You're working hard." He spins around with a glare. "And you're not supposed to be here." He grips my hips pulling me towards him.
"I missed you." I nuzzle into his chest. He hums as we rock back and forth. "I missed you, my love. Come on. No lady should be exposed to this heat." He places his hand on the small of my back leading me to the elevator.
Holding me the entire way up and then carrying me to our bed, never letting us go. "Are my darlings all suggled up?" He asks resting my head on his chest. The icy colored flesh proving wrong to the touch of fire on my fingers. "Yes, Jer." I mumble feeling my eyes draw to a close. "Never will I go a day without my family... even your father." He kisses my head before I can ask the question.
~
Jeremiah POV:
My workers work endlessly day and night to break the walls of the under the earth. Slowing down each day, getting on my nerves in the end. You're pushing my men way too hard. "We're not gonna break through for at least a couple more days. There is absolutely no way to make it on schedule." The leader of the pack of sweat cogs comes in.
My wife doesn't need to be kept in this filth any longer. How dare he disrespect my future.  "Well, not with that attitude, you're not." I slice the man's throat, as he falls to the ground, blood flowing on the dirt.
"Now... everyone... let's reach inside and dig... a little deeper, shall we? 'Cause that's the only way you're all making it out of this hole." I hum watching their fear thicken.
Two taps on my shoulder break my gaze from the project. "Oh, Echo. Are these all the recruits?" Skinny, no brains, slim Whitted. These are my soldiers?
"Well, I thought you would want quality over quantity. Not everybody can pass a .38 caliber test of faith." I smirk thinking of the trials and tests they've suffered.  "Yes... you certainly have set a very high bar for devotion."
"Oh. Almost forgot. Bruce Wayne and his sidekick Curls... Or is he the sidekick? Anyway, they tried to infiltrate our little operation here."
"Oh?" " Oh. And Curls can walk, really well, especially... for a paraplegic. Ah. And she wants to kill you." I glare at her with a snarl. This doesn't help that my wife is being cared for in the same building.
"A lot, FYI. If I see her, I'll give you a shout. Oh... and kill her." I nod rolling my eyes. Finish the job and move on for the better of my wife and children.
~
I walk into the GCPD questioning room with my scarf wrapped around my head, and my belly protruding out. Quite the look I must say. I open the door to see Victor Zsasz pushed on to the table by Harvey.
"Ow. This is a really nice table." I snicker and take my glasses off. "You do realize her thrives on the pain." The three pairs of eyes look at me.  "We got a dozen witnesses that saw you walk out of that building before it went kabooey."
"Yeah. I heard some gangs had taken over." Zsasz says turning his eyes to me.  "Figured, with you guys occupied, I might help myself to some of your supplies. Hey, do you guys have any canned peaches? Man, I'd trade an arm and a leg for that right now. Not mine, somebody else's. Maybe little baby Maniax's." He laughs reaching for my stomach before Jim swats his arm down.
"If you're innocent, why shoot up a city block full of cops?"
"Because it was full of cops." Zsasz and I say at the same time.
"Who were also trying to shoot me. And, guys, those were warning shots. I mean, if I really
wanted to kill you... you'd be dead. You got a pen? I want to write this guy a thank-you letter. Do the math. If I blew up a building full of people, I would have covered
every inch of my body in sweet, sweet scars. Mrs. Valeska...  want to do a strip search?" He winks before my father punches him. "She's married, pig."
I lock arms with my dad and walk through the station. "Got Lucius on the horn for you, Cap."
"Lucius, talk to me." I grab the phone holding it close enough for the both of us to hear. "Haven wasn't destroyed by a bomb. It was an RPG, like the one that took down the chopper."
"You sure?"
I'm holding what's left of it in my hand right now. We found pieces of it in the rubble. It was fired through the basement window, detonated the fuel oil tank. And we're still trying to figure out exactly which rooftop it was fired from.
"Rooftop?"
"Yes."
"Dad, the only angle you could hit this place from is above. Zsasz was on the ground. Looks like you need a new suspect. I think we need to-"
"Jim! Ah. I know the wheels of justice turn slowly, so I'm here to provide- a modicum of grease."
Rushing up towards the front, Oswald, the Mayor of fallen Gotham, stands tall and proud.
"You need to leave right now."
"Still claiming he's innocent, is he?"
"Yes. And as much as I hate to admit it, the evidence is backing him up."
Harvey busts out, "What the hell's going on?" "Harvey, according to Lucius, Zsasz couldn't have done it."
Oswald huffs with a smile. "I did not expect you to go soft, Jim. Actually, I did. Behind a grandpa and all must've changed your ways. Which is why I didn't come alone." Several gunmen come out armed and ready to fire. My father huddles me close and shields me from the view of guns.
"Bring me Victor Zsasz!"
"Leave, (Y/n). Go home!" Jim pushes me away towards the doors.
~
Jeremiah POV:
I wave my hat fanning my pale skin placed upon the crippling bones. It's so damp and hot in here, but I'm freezing. My heart has gone cold without her scent around. Not a touch, not a wiff, not a glace for days it seems. Where is my angel with my bundles of joy?
"You see, a river cuts through rock not because of its power, but because of its persistence. So what do we do when we feel like giving up? Dig a little deeper. And what do we do when we can't possibly go on any longer? Dig a little deeper. And what do we..." A sharp blade stabs into my side crippling my speech. I look down seeing the masked figure in the striped coat. I gasp feeling my footing slide as the attacker shoves the blade into my stomach further.
"Deep enough?" The individual removes the mask revealing the little pussy of them all. "Well, Selina, I must say..." She pulls the blade out plunging it back in sharply.
"Don't say anything." Over and over again the blade is shoved into my side. The light dimming, the hot steam hitting my brow, the devilish laughter of my brother. This is near my end? Maybe so...
"Selina!" The rat is stripped away from me causing me to fall to the ground barely clinging to the life of happiness I have.
"Selina!" Bruce Wayne holds the fierce kitty back. "Stop. It's done! It's over."
~
The building is quiet. The entire place is quiet... Not one swing of an ax hitting limestone, making a light clink sound. Not the ring of my husbands voice calling to his men. Not even Echo meeting me at the door with my slippers and milkshake. Something is not right.
"Jeremiah?" I call out as if he could hear me from below. If not him then someone. One of the members at least, but no one came. I proceeded to enter the elevator only to see blood on the buttons and floor. They were having the graduation today, not everyone makes it.
The doors  open to the pool room and I could almost drop to my knees at the smell. Thick scent of blood coating the walls. I walk out of the elevator and down into the pool counting the dead. No Echo or Jeremiah. Good so far.
I make my way down to the tunnels where silence has taken over. Just a simple lone man sitting in a chair. "Where is Jermiah?" I panic pulling my jacket closer. Could he have left me?
"Mrs. Valaska!" "Where is my husband?" "He's off in the tunnels. He's got injured. I'm supposed to take you to him." "Well, go on!" He shuffles his feet in a pace of nervousness, tripping over rocks and pickaxes. "How did he get hurt?" "Someone came in and just stabbed the boss. She was taken away by Bruce Wayne." I feel fire ignite in my blood. Selina and Bruce. What a treat. Trying to kill my husband in my own home.
Down the tunnels I hear him. Groaning in pain as Echo stitches him up. "How could you let this happen?" I shout at her. "She was fast." "And you're supposed to be faster." I glare at her as she cowers at my words.
"Don't stress, darling. It's not good for the babies."
"Jeremiah." I kneel down next to him grabbing his face. "Are you alright?" He places his hands over mine, kissing them each. "I'm still alive. One thing I've still got on my brother. How are you, my love? I'm sorry. You must've been wrecked with worry." Jeremiah pulls me into his lap. I nod with my bottom lip out. "Yes, I was. I was so scared, Jer." He pulls me to him. "Aw my darling. I know. I know."
I shift my weight slightly causing him to jet in a sharp inhale. "Oh, honey. Stitches still sore?" He nods. "Never would have happened if you wore that armor I prepared." Echo hums, causing me to roll my eyes. "That bullet makes you sentimental of the wrong things." I huff out pushing her out of the view.
"Why would you not check who was working? You always do. You're always prepared." Jeremiah places his hand on my cheek again. "I had to let Selina thrust the knife into my flesh at least once. Verisimilitude trumps precaution, you see." "They think you're dead." I think putting everything together.
Echo stands to the side bouncing with information. "What is it?" She giggles jumping on her heels. "All systems go." Jeremiah lifts himself, placing a hand on the small of my back and leading us along behind Echo.
"You could've died." I whisper looking at the dirt. "I didn't." "But you could have, Jeremiah. That's my point. You have two children growing, and soon they'll be out in this world. They need their father. You've kept me safely away, but that won't mean shit if you're not around to protect your children." I move ahead of him in a fit of fire.
A hand grabs my shoulder spinning me around. Jerehimah dips me and pushes our lips together. His grip on my arm and hip so tight, keeping me pulled to him with no fight. He pulls away only an inch, looking at my eyes, looking into the soul. "Now, you may not understand everything I do, but I do it for you and these two kids. I think and I plan for hours. You sit up in the bed resting your feet like I tell you. When you start questioning if I'm going to make it, that's when this will fall apart. You're my darling. You've been mine for thousands of years. Never doubt me, (Y/n)." He places his hands on my stomach and pecks my forehead. "Come along now. We have things to do."
Leading me through the tunnels I start to see less of the dirt and more solid grey rock already formed into tunnels. "Where are we?" Jeremiah giggles pulling me alongside.
"Doctor. I'm hearing good things." Jeremiah says holding in laughter.
What is he up to?
The Doctor nods. "The bandages are ready to come off. Your assistant thought you'd like to see the results." Echo shakes her head in praise like a dog while Jer nods his head. "Indeed, I would."
He turns to me. "You won't want to miss this, (y/n)."
The Doctor unravels the bandages on the individuals faces revealing a profile built from professional lifestyle and diets. This is Thomas and Martha Wayne before my eyes... ALIVE!
"Oh, you two look beautiful." I smile looking down at her pearl necklace. "Down to the very detail with you." Jeremiah kisses my cheek. "I love family reunions, don't you?" "More than Christmas!" I cheer and giggle.

Bruce crouches on the ledge, hidden by shadows, just out of Commissioner Jim Gordon’s sight. It’s easier with the bat signal lit up, and usually Bruce would play up the dramatics, try to see how long his partner could keep a straight face.
Tonight is not a usual night, though.
For one, his partner is missing. They’d split up to investigate a warehouse, but ten minutes in, Bruce had gotten a panicked, “B, they’re—”
After that, nothing but static on his comm. Bruce had searched the warehouse top to bottom three times.
No Robin.
And now this. The bat signal lit up. Bruce had no clues as to where Robin could be, and he can only hope that this interruption is connected.
He slips from the shadows just as Gordon turns to light another cigarette.
“Holy—”
Gordon startles at the abrupt sight of him, clutching at his chest. Bruce’s heart aches at the lack of Robin trying to muffle his snickers that usually accompanied the reaction.
His grief doesn’t show on his face.
“Would ya quit scaring me like that? I’m not as young as I used to be.”
Bruce says nothing. Gordon sighs, fishing something from inside his coat and holding it out for Bruce to see.
“A kid from Gotham University showed up at our front door about twenty minutes ago, absolutely scared out of his mind. He gave this to us,” Gordon lightly shakes the object—a communicator, Bruce realizes. Sleek. Small. Too well-made for any of the usual Gotham suspects. “Kid said it’s for you.”
“And the student?” Bruce asks, taking the communicator from Gordon.
Gordon stuffs his hands into his coat pockets. “Conference room downstairs. I asked one of the ladies at the front desk to watch over him and take his statement since I’m pretty short-handed tonight. She should be finishing up soon.”
“Hn.”
“You’re real talkative tonight.”
Bruce doesn’t bother to respond to that. He growls, “What else.”
“Nothing we can’t handle ourselves,” Gordon sighs. “Nothing urgent, at least.”
He sounds exasperated, and Bruce knows from talking to Gordon during the day that the GCPD is slammed with cases that the city council won’t sign off on asking for Batman’s help. Not to mention all of their internal affairs issues.
Downstairs is probably a real clusterfuck.
Still, Bruce has other priorities.
“Any leads on the sender?” Bruce asks.
Gordon pinches the bridge of his nose. Migraine, probably. “No. Apparently, the kid was drugged and kidnapped. He woke up a few blocks from here with a note.”
“The note?”
“Being processed as evidence,” Gordon tells him. He hands over a photograph. “Here. Don’t say I never did anything for you.”
The note. Bruce doesn’t recognize the handwriting. There’s no signature, either. Just a few words: Go to GCPD. Device must go to Batman.
Vague. Bruce should get back to the Cave and analyze it right now. It may be connected to Robin. He has what he needs from the Commissioner, and usually by now, he’d have vanished off into the shadows.
But tonight’s not usual. For some reason, Bruce hesitates.
The communicator crackles to life.
“I assume that my lovely device has reached the fabled Batman’s hands,” a voice says. “That’s good. I was getting tired of babysitting.”
Bruce stiffens. Definitely connected, then. Gordon blinks at the device, his brain starting to connect dots. Unfortunately, he’s missing some of the key dots. He’ll only be working with half a picture.
Bruce doesn’t draw it for him. He stays silent.
“I’m assuming you’re listening,” the voice says, and this time, Bruce can hear a commotion in the background. “Bring the brat over.”
Gordon’s eyebrows shoot up.
“Fuck you, you bald jerk!” Bruce’s pre-teen ward yells out, and if he didn’t have the cowl on, Bruce is pretty sure he’d be heaving out a sigh, because of course Dick is antagonizing them. “I’m pretty sure I know exactly what I’m talking about. The color scheme is atrocious. No flair, or anything. What are you, second-rate kidnappers? Where’s your pizazz?!”
“Will you shut up?!” another voice cries, probably whoever was ordered to bring Dick over to the first voice.
“It’s literally illegal for me to stop running my mouth. If I’m quiet for more than thirty seconds, the world’ll explode. Now let me go so I can kick your mustached, jumpsuit wearing asses ten ways to Sunday!” Dick yells.
“Not happening,” the first voice says.
“Ow!” Bruce’s heart seizes at Dick’s short cry of pain. “Hey, Mister, I think you missed your calling as a meat tenderizer!”
“Batman’s on the line,” the first voice tells Dick, and this time, Dick does go quiet. “You wanna speak to him, then you behave.”
There’s one, two, three, four, five seconds of silence. And then—
“B?” Dick call out, sounding tentative in a way that puts Bruce’s nerves on fire. There’s static in his brain, and he’s barely able to push past the fuzziness to hear Dick ask, “Are you there?”
Somehow, Bruce manages to sound like his normal, gruff, Batman self when he says, “Robin.”
Dick exhales loudly. And this time Bruce can’t help the fond eyeroll when Dick starts chattering again.
“Good golly gosh, Batman,” Dick says, sounding ten times brighter than before, like he hadn’t just been using language that would have made Alfred wash his mouth out with soap. “You wouldn’t believe how dull this place is. I mean, you’d probably like it with how dark and dreary it is. Perfect for bat brooding.”
There’s more commotion, some angered and exasperated shouts from the background of the communicator, but Dick keeps talking.
“And holy Batman, B, when they surprise adopted me I did not think that I was gonna have to deal with more black. What’s with old guys and monotone colors? D’ya think it makes you look manly?”
“That’s enough, kid,” the first voice says. Then, to Bruce, “If you want the chatterbox traffic light back, you’re going to meet me on 32nd by the old batting cages. Oh, and you’re going to bring me a file from the GCPD.”
“File?” Gordon finally steps in.
“Ah, so the Commish was listening in. Oh well. Yeah. Jaquelyn Briggins. Her file, or you don’t see the kid again.”
“Fine,” says Bruce, before Gordon can put his foot in his mouth. “Fifteen minutes. The batting cages on 32nd.”
The line goes dead. Bruce makes sure it’s temporarily disabled for sure with an attachable EMP.
“Get the file,” Bruce demands.
Gordon sighs, exasperatedly, but walks towards the roof’s door. “I’ll get it. Meet me in my office.”
Bruce goes from roof to window in seconds, slipping into Gordon’s office before the commissioner gets there. Once he brings the file, they pour through it.
Thirteen minutes.
“What’s this guy want with Jaquelyn Briggins?” Gordon asks. “There’s barely anything in here.”
Which is better for them, Bruce thinks as he scans the two sheets of information a third time. More information would take time to sort through things that don’t matter. In this case, all the info Bruce needs is right in front of him.
Eleven minutes.
Bruce takes a picture with his cowl lenses. “I’m borrowing the file.”
Gordon doesn’t look happy. “That’s illegal, you know.”
“So are vigilantes.”
“Bring it back,” Gordon sighs.
Bruce grunts an affirmative, and then he’s off.
The journey to the meet up place is practically a blur. He’s at three minutes when he reaches 32nd street. He reaches the batting cages at two.
He perches from a nearby roof ledge, scanning the area.
Dick’s information is as accurate as always. Four men stand outside the batting cages. There are two men holding Dick, one grabbing each arm. Dick’s staring down a third man, and the last is looking around the practically abandoned street.
One is bald. Two have mustaches. All of them are wearing black jumpsuits. The one standing in front of Dick is wearing rings, which match the scratches on Dick’s cheek.
Nothing else is out of the ordinary. He double checks, sends a discreet message to Alfred to prep the first aid kit and start researching Briggins, and makes sure Superman’s frequency is on hand if things get dicey.
Then, Batman gets to work.
Dick knows he’s there. The way he squints his eyes and grits his teeth as he chatters—yells, really—at the ring-wearer is enough for Bruce to know that much. The kid is yelling louder, now, raving about the goons’ lack of fashion.
It’s agitating them enough for Bruce to slip from the rooftop, landing almost soundlessly in the shadows. He tenses, waits for one of the goons to start yelling at Dick, and then rolls out smoke pellets. They work almost immediately, and Bruce makes his move.
It’s only been a few years since he and Dick have started working together, and even less since they’ve worked together well enough to seamlessly fight half-blind. But, Bruce is careful, and soon, he has the lookout and one of Dick’s captors knocked out with well-placed blows, and as Dick takes out his other captor, Bruce catches the throat of the ring-wearer and slams him up against a chain-link face.
“Who is Jaquelyn Briggs?” Bruce growls out. He pays no attention to the fight behind him. Dick takes the last man out in less than ten seconds. The ring-wearer’s eyes are wide. Bruce slams him against the fence again. “Tell. Me. Now.”
“My—She’s my cousin, man!” the guy croaks, hands scrabbling at the glove crushing his windpipe. “The police—hrk—covered up her death! I know it!”
Bruce lets the ring-wearer fall to the ground. He starts to tie him up after he alerts Gordon to the situation.
Dick crouches down by the restrained ring-wearer, head tilted. “I don’t get why you had to surprise adopt me to find out whether or not the police covered up your cousin’s death. You could’ve just asked Commissioner Gordon and he would have helped you!”
Bruce sighs. “Robin.”
Dick looks up at him. “What? It’s true.”
“Stop using the words ‘surprise adopt’. It’s not funny.”
Dick smirks. “Au contraire, Mister Batman, sir. I think it’s hilarious.”
Bruce rolls his eyes under the cowl. He’s going to be hearing this one for a while. But, he thinks that he can probably live with it, now that his kid is back where he’s supposed to be—right next to him.
“We’re leaving, Robin.”
“’Kay! Bye, surprise adopted father who is no longer my surprise adopted father!”
“Robin.”
“Just say I’m funny and I’ll move on.”
“No, you won’t.”
“You’re probably right.”
Bruce rolls his eyes again, fonder and even more exasperated than the first time. He ushers Robin forward, and then they disappear into the night, the only trace that they were there the four men they’d tied up and left for the police.
Dick chatters the whole way home. Bruce wouldn’t have it any other way.

I promised to answer this in a seperate post so here it goes!
(Sorry this took forever but...I think the length explains why ajsnsns)
For @honestmrdual who asked for Alice +/vs/or Jervis!
Slight warning??? For the discussion of kidnapping since I mention Alice and Jervis within my Rotten AU
Also Murder. And Suicide.
Also Incest. Duh.
Jervis vs. Alice
That's...a hard one but also super simple? Like, I don't think either of them would want to fight the other, you know?
Of course Jervis doesn't wanna hurt his love but Alice also would rather avoid a confrontation with her brother.
But since as long as one of them is alive, they're gonna play an eternal game of cat and mouse, it would've come down to a fight eventually.
And even though in canon Alice dies, I think she would win.
Because canon seems more like an accident than a strategic suicide (even though Gordon words it like it's one).
But if it came down to a one on one fight?
I mean, Alice is shown to be willing to shoot Jervis whereas Jervis never truly threatens her.
Like yeah, she's tied up but he doesn't threaten her with a gun (like he does at the Lee/Valerie/Jim tea party for example) and when they meet on the roof he's mostly super happy to see her, he doesn't even think about defending himself??
He just stands there, arms up and obviously wanting to touch/hug Alice.
(Which…I think about often ansnsnsn)
So if they didn't need Jervis around for longer, Alice would've definitely killed him.
Shot him. Stabbed him. Lit him on fire. Whatever she could think of at that moment.
And Jervis probably would be super surprised because?? Alice??? His dear sister?? Why would you hurt him like this if he only wants to keep you safe???
Also I have made a post before about how he never once tries to hypnotize her - possibly because she's immune but that's never outright stated so maybe he also just...wouldn't do that to her. And I lose my mind every time I think about that for more than two seconds).
Also also, if I am already rambling - when am I not - the way it would've given Alice way more agency if she would've chosen to die the way Jim seems to imply she did.
Since he goes 'She would've rather been dead than spend any more time with you' or something like that and you could argue that yeah, she does pull away from Jervis but I think that was more 'I need to get away' and less 'I'm actively choosing to get impaled now'.
Just imagine!!
Jervis once again pressing Alice to his chest, watching Jim and Harvey fight tweedle dee and tweedle dum, when suddenly Alice pushes away, frees herself and stumbles into the room.
And everyone freezes for a moment because she's yelling at them to stop and Jim's telling her to go hide somewhere while Jervis is trying to reach for her without getting shot but she's having none of it.
She's sick of running, sick of hiding, she doesn't wanna live the rest of her life like this, always looking over her shoulder, always ready to vanish again, never truly able to build herself a life, to make any friends, to do more than survive.
Mostly, she wants to be able to wash all the blood from her hands, wants to stop being responsible for people getting hurt, the ones close to her and the ones unfortunate enough to be in her brother's way.
It's her fault Jervis is in Gotham, it's her fault Jim nearly died, it's her fault Jervis manipulated and maimed and murdered his way to her.
Not to mention she's a killer too! It's in her blood just as much as it is in Jervis' and she's tired of it, of all of it.
And it seems for a second she's gonna go to Jervis willingly and stay with him (which is an option she knows, but it wouldn't stop the running and the hiding, wouldn't stop the detectives from coming after them) but no.
Instead she picks up Jervis' gun (that I think he discarded in that scene? If not, he did now ajsjsjs) and she shoots herself.
And everyone would yell at her not to do it, voices shouting and people running toward her before there's this loud bang and then there's silence.
For a very long time.
Anyway, since Alice made it very clear she chose to die, it would be harder for Jervis to delude himself into thinking Jim somehow forced her or tore her away from him (although he would probably still manage, it's Jervis after all) so maybe, they'd actually get to arrest him (because I can see him just...falling to his knees and not moving after Alice is dead. Maybe cradling her in his arms. There's no real reason to go on now after all).
But even if he gets dragged away like in canon, this minor change would've made Alice' death a lot more driven in my opinion.
(And if we still need her impaled then imagine her speech and then she lets herself fall backwards with her eyes closed and her arms outstretched and she still ends up on the pole).
(Plus, because I like multiple endings, two possibilities I would also consider very sexy but wouldn't make sense in canon since they need Jervis around:
Jervis kills himself after seeing Alice die - much like Victor Fries tried to do, because what kind of life is this if the one person worth living for is dead?
 Alice pretends she's willingly going with Jervis but she used the time she had while she was monologuing to acquire a weapon (maybe one of the needles Jervis used to draw her blood) and once she's close enough she goes for a hug and ends up stabbing him in the neck multiple times until he's falling down in front of her, slowly bleeding out, murmuring her name with his eyes open in shock.
Just....some musings you know akjssksm).
Jervis + Alice
Do I even need to answer this? xD
They're on my top ship list, they're right up there next to Jecco and Jerelina, but they also have scenes within canon that make my mind go !!! like Jerome/Lee and Jervis/Ecco do.
They're just....good. Very good.
I have...a lot of thoughts and AUs for them but I think I shared them all already because I can't stop blabbering about them lmao.
Although I gotta say I've been thinking about them within my Jeremiah/Ecco/Jerome AU (aka the Rotten Fic)
Specifically about Jervis being Alice' legal guardian since she was about 10 or even younger (since their parents died very early in her life) and Alice isn't exactly being held captive but everytime she tried to run away while she was growing up, the police simply brought her back to her brother.
Because she was a minor and he was her 'loving and worried' big brother - who also could be very persuasive and knew how to manipulate people in his favour - and soon she was known as a 'notorious runaway' and the people she tried to plead for help only smiled at her in that condescending way people do when they pity you.
'Ah there she is, the little Tetch Girl, poor thing, lost her parents so soon. Now she's a troubled kid, running away, telling lies. She can be thankful her brother is so patient and loving with her.'
And surely all the tales she likes to spin about her brother crawling into bed with her or giving her 'special baths' are simply a sign for her overactive imagination, a hurt child making up all sorts of morbid things to get some attention.
And now she's around 20 and she knows she's old enough, an adult now, they would have to at least listen now.
Or she could simply try and get away, out of town, the police can't escort her back to her house anymore, they can't stop her at the train station and tell her she's a bad girl for worrying her brother like that.
But she also knows Jervis would never let her, he would come after her and he would kill everyone she would dare to care about besides him.
He would find her no matter where she hides.
It's safer when she stays, for her and for all the people out there she will never get to meet.
I simply like the idea of Alice basically being in a kidnapping situation but no one realizes. She's the sweet girl living with her brother, she belongs at home with her brother, what is she talking about being 'at her brother's mercy'.
And it's gotten to a point where he put her out of school with the promises of 'homeschooling' to 'help her anxiety' and oh, isn't he such a sweet and caring brother?
Taking it upon himself to teach her at home, what a big sacrifice it must be for him to completely focus on his little sister like that, to make sure she doesn't get left behind!
(And of course, since Jervis can be...persuasive, no one questions whether he actually has a teaching degree or anything of the like, no, Alice is shoved into his arms with smiles and waves).
And as Alice grew up, got to a point where her words couldn't be brushed aside as child's talk anymore, she learned to play her part. Made some…mistakes, said the wrong thing to the wrong person and had to live with the consequences.
(Consequences the other person can't live with anymore).
So if some newer neighbours notice that Alice is never seen outside? Well, she's a shy girl, no need to be worried!
Her brother is such a gentleman and he does make it a point to introduce the both of them to everyone who moves into their street, did the same when they first moved to Gotham, going from door to door with little Alice on his hand to prevent any rumours from spreading to make a good first impression!
And even if someone does worry, they only need to wait until Jervis is gone for the day to ring the doorbell. Alice will open and invite them inside, will play nice and portray the little sister Jervis told her to be.
The neighbour will come back home thinking 'Oh well, the girl is a shut-in, nothing too out of the ordinary. It's a dangerous city after all' and Alice will remain in her room and fight back the panic inside her, knowing that if she didn't do her job right and they get suspicious....accidents happen all the time.
Of course this routine is gonna get disturbed once Ecco enters the scene but let's not get ahead of ourselves👀👀👀
(Anyways the inherent horror of being kidnapped and used by strangers - aka Ecco and the twins - vs. Being permanently kept in a glass cage that no one else can see except you and no one can ever hear you scream for help - aka Alice and Jervis)
Jervis or Alice
Okay that's a hard one! Like, harder than choosing between Ecco and Jervis because Jervis and Alice are kinda on the same level here.
I love Jervis. You know if you've seen even just a fraction of my blog lmao.
But Alice.....so much potential. Such a good fucking storyline.
(Jervis and Alice as two sides of the same coin? I'd even say they have a big 'star-crossed lovers, one can't truly exist without the other' vibe. I mean, you could even compare them to 'B*tjokes in a way - only the who hunts who down is flipped).
Also Alice is very pretty and I have an obvious preference for girls in pretty much any piece of media I consume.
But then you have Jervis, who isn't only involved in the Alice storyline but is also part of the J Squad.....you have the legendary Jerome/Jonathan/Jervis team up and all three of them being horribly into each other....Jonathan and Jervis basically being an old married couple....the way Jervis looks at Jerome which still has me losing my mind....also you have the Ace Chemicals Episode which single-handedly saved the 5th season......the superb Ecco/Jervis interaction......fuck, this is hard.
I love Alice and I need to talk about her more often but I think Jervis wins simply by having more interactions with other characters (and oh to have Alice around for longer.....have her face off against Jervis on the regular.....Bruce deserves a little ragtag team of protoheroes in my opinion so why not add Alice...).
...But I am getting off track :D

im definitely not ripping off my friend by making a list of au ideas i have no siree //gonna slap this under a readmore cause i. well i say a lot. all of the time. i tried so hard to format this Good but tumblr fucked me up i am so sorry
so first-off i know i already have one WIP AU (Auckland) on ao3 so i wont talk about That one cause like. spoilers. i actualyl have it like 80% created so its likely gonna truly get finished for once and i dont wanna ruin shit
the other one ive posted about is something me and ben (catgirlrepublic) have worked on together its not at all close to done or anything but it's. a fun little crossover. Between jdate and my fuckinuhm. Original characters story “Untitled Villains Project”. the sketches of the comic version ive started is actually my pinned post 👉👈 its like the first chunk of the story, i think half of part 1? yea.
Tldr john fucking Somehow is able t oget into contact with a certain curious scientist from another reality who’d just love to study the Soy Sauce, most certainly not for her own nefarious purposes
John and Dave meet up with the scientist, her name is Boss, and her lab assistant, Toxic, and after a bit of a preliminary Vibe Check where john determines her trustworthy (which Dave doesnt agree with,) the two agree to be taken to the world UVP is set in. from there they stay in Boss’s lab (big old fucking abandoned military lab). John and Toxic are fast friends due to mutual love-of-chaos. John n Dave get to fuckin, camp out on an air mattress.
The day after they arrive, the two get split up, not exactly intentionally; big plot points of UVP are liek. Fueled by Boss sending Toxic to go fetch her “research materials,” which are usually important artifacts
Fuckin side note i guess i have to explain my dumb bullshit: Boss’s, uh, field of expertise so to speak is actually fckin, basically the scientific study of magic and superpowers n shit like that. This shit’s all real in that world. Toxic’s got fuckin superpowers, so do 4 other main characters, whatever. It’s got a bit to do with spirituality, iss Boss’s hypothesis. So she has Toxic fetch important artifacts that might have “energies” to them. The thing is actually way more fuckin complictated than that, this is just Boss’s initial hypothesis.
Motherfucking anyways. So Boss gives Toxic a job to do, and John get excited about how Cool that sounds, and ends up going with Toxic, leaving Boss and Dave alone. Neither is thrilled about this. But Dave and Boss get to have a bit of conversation (while Toxic and John are off bonding and having a good time) and come to a… mutual grudging understanding of some kind. They still dont like each other though lmao
Theres gonna be deeper shit going on but we havent sorted it out yet/tbh havent like Written For It in a while but i still like thinking about it a lot lol
Also pretty sure our endgame is john and dave steal toxic and bring them back with em lmao boss is kind of not nice and toxic would most certainly be better off in Undisclosed. Actually theyd fucking love it. Theyd become a local cryptid im sure. Undisclosed’s mothman is a teleporting spike baby.
I have. Another crossover AU that i might. Post something about for halloween? Maybe? If i have it finished?
Crosses over into, you guessed it, another one of my original-character projects. God, am i vain or something?
I promise this is just because i think blue and dave should get to team up to beat up some monsters
Quick briefing on my fuckinuh. Original character story, this one doesnt have a name (yet? Idk lol my work never actually goes anywhere sso who gives a shit). It centers around two grim reapers, Red (26, bi woman) and Blue (22, aroace agender asshole). In this reality or whatever, grim reapers function kind of like low-level office workers. They get told who’s going to die + when by some middle-management types, and upper management only involve themselves when punishment needs to be doled out. These Higher-Ups can be seen as analogous to Korrok; they’re decidedly not human, never were, and fucking terrifyingly powerful. Additionally, grim reapers are sort of .. designed to be “background noise” people. In reality theyre supernatural beings and, uh, look Real Fuckin Weird (the whole deal has a neon aesthetic im terrible at drawing uwu) but most humans just perceive them like extras in a movie. A body’s there but the camera’s not focused on it.
To the narrative: the shit starts when Red n Blue get relocated to Undisclosed. Relocation is something that just happens every now and then to reapers; they usually work in teams, but they get split up into different cities to avoid any strong bonds forming (a counter-union strategy from the Higher-Ups).
Red, Blue, John and Dave end up running into each other for the first time in a McDonalds where John n Dave are getting some 4am “hey, we just survived another horrific monster fight” celebration burgers. John and Dave are the only two people who can see how… strange Red and Blue are. Nobody else notices.
John unintentionally pisses Blue off, leading to Blue whacking him upside the head with a dildo bat. They all four get kicked out of McDonald’s. Dave and Red both are less than thrilled
Blue and John end up resolving their differences, somehow. Red and Dave briefly bond over their dumbass best friends being, well, dumbasses. They all part ways amicably.
somehow-or-other (idk yet) they end up running into each other a few more times, and eventually john invites them over to his place, and the four (plus Amy now!) get to know each other a little better
while there, Blue gets a text about some guy who's gonna die and John offers to drive them to where that's gonna go down. they take him up on the offer and get to have a bit of one-on-one conversation
after that ordeal though Blue has had Enough of people and bails, leaving John to head home alone
theres a sort of mirror-development going on with the five of em. Red, John, and Amy would all like everyone to get along, though theyre a bit tentative about it (John moreso than the other two, actually, jsut cause. well Red n Blue could still be Sauce Monsters). Dave and Blue on the other hand do Not like people enough for this shit, and Dave's not unconvinced theyre Sauce Monsters. he will not trust them until proven he should
the story's kinda nebulous but i got an idea for some Shit going down that involves both Sauce Monsters and also the Higher-Ups to have some fuckin absolute chaos go down.
Oops! All Trans
Everybody is transgender. Everyone
Ive actually workshopped this one both with ben (catgirlrepublic) and ghost (ghost-wannabe) lmao its a fun lil concept ive had from the get-go cause i mean. What’s an internet tran gonna do other than hit all their favourite media with the Everyone’s Trans beam
Dave transitioned post-high school and faked his death for it. People go missing in Undisclosed all the damned time, after all. He moved to the next city over, transitioned fully, then came back as a completely new man. Yes i know this doesnt exactly fit with the “everyone knows David from high school” thing alright, hush.
Anytime anyone brings up John’s old best friend (pre-transition Dave) John throws an entire fit like an overdramatic grieving widow. Full-on sobbing “why would you bring her up?! I miss her so much—” to the point that people just stop bringing up because Jesus Christ That Sure Is Uncomfortable KJHGFDS.
This is a scheme he and Dave came up with prior to Dave leaving, though Dave hadnt exactly anticipated John putting on this much of a performance about it— but it’s stopped Dave from ever having tto hear his deadname again, so hey.
Amy transitioned sometime in middle school/early high school. Her family was super supportive and loved her a ton and most people just know her as Amy. she was super shy her whole life really so. Yeah. people just dont think to bring it up lmao also i Feel Like big jim would absolutely wallop anyone who gave her trouble of any kind
John’s nonbinary (genderfluid specifically) and not exactly Interested in transitioning ? like hes fine with how he is. mostly.
he came out to Dave in high school but hes not out to anyone else exactly. Maybe his bandmates. Probably any other trans person in Undisclosed knows, too, cause theyre safe to tell lmao. Johns mostly a “he/him out of convenience” kinda nb who’s cool with any pronouns but does prefer they/them most. Dave and Amy use they/them when the trio are alone
Also this is a totally self-indulgent caveat that i think would be great, Dave’s actually agender but because he's transmasc and transitioned when he thought there were really only two options, and being Boy at least felt less weird than being Girl, he just kind of assumed he was a dude. It’s only through a lot of (like fucking years and years hes probably in his 30s/40s when he puts 2 and 2 together on this one) talks about gender with John that he realizes he actually feels like No Gender. Masc aesthetic with none gender.
I Just Think It’d Be Neat Is All Okay
Also Amy came out to Dave about being trans early on in them seeing each other and his response was to get very nervous before blurting out “me too” and then just being too embarrassed to talk about it for the rest of the day. Hes got a lot of hangups on talking about it actually it takes years for him to get comfortable in that
by contrast when Amy comes out to John about it his response is to yell “EYYY ME TOO” and give her a big ol hug lmao
I think itd be neatt if Amy ran a like. Transfem help/advice blog on tumblr. Kind of helped-with by John who can give her transfem nb insight for certain asks. I also just think that would be neat.
Cowboy AU - i put this one last cause its got drawings to it actually. Theyll be at the bottom
Basically just. Hey you ever watched a western. I think they look neat
This is another one me n ben have come up with lol
The soy sauce and all that shit still exist, im not sure where korrok fits in yet but ill figure it out
Theres no real like solid narrative yet ? but heres the barebones of everybody’s arcs.
John
Johns an absolute troublemaker, Of Course. Hes wanted in several towns for absolutely stupid shit. Hes a loner who shows up, causes chaos, gets drunk, does some drugs, runs away if people get too mad at him
He definitely had the same kind of deal with the soy sauce as in canon— he was at some kind of party, somebody offered it, he took it cause why the fuck wouldnt he, now he can see monsters and shit
Hes kind of a mooch also. Like. dont let him stay in your barn man he’ll never fucking leave and drink all your booze.
He runs into Dave when they happen to just, cross paths in the same town. the bullshit John stirs up ends up involving Dave in a way that makes it seem like it's his fault too, and they both get run out of town
after that he just tags along after Dave. hes decided this guy's Cool he wants to stick around. Dave is pissed at first, but not enough to shoot him or anything, and eventually, John grows on him
Dave
Dave also is a loner but unlike John hes simply so fucking awkward and bad with people. He doesnt feel like he belongs anywhere so he just travels
He’s the stereotypical Lone Ranger tbh. He wanders from town to town, solving their problems, though hed deny its out of any moral obligation (it kinda is, a little bit, tbh. He does like feeling useful). He shows up, fixes things, leaves. He's kind of a legend but most people think he's hiding something dark. other people jsut know him as that guy who farted real loud in the middle of the saloon and promptly skipped town out of sheer embarrassment. you know how it goes with Dave
He ends up involved with the Soy Sauce when a snake (not Actually a snake,) bites him. The snake’s more like the wig-monsters, really. Anyway, it injects him with the soy sauce, he fucking trips balls in the middle of the desert, he can see monsters now
He runs into John and shit goes tits-up, as said, but they become traveling buddies after that. he'd never say so, but he's glad for the company, actually. it's nice. hes not used to companionship but he feels a strange kind of easiness hanging out with John....
not sure how the Monster Dave concept will like fit in to this reality but like. trust me i want it in here. I'll Figure It Out.
Amy
Amy’s been living in a town John and Dave end up passing through and she is very curious about these two new Handsome Strangers who claim to fight monsters and just kinda. Persistently tags along til they let her join for real
Her family’s all dead, unfortunately, just like in canon, and she’s been living alone for a few years before meeting John n Dave. she had nothing left in that town to stay for, she'd been fantasizing about escaping on wild adventures for a long time and this felt a little like a dream come true. (Dave still gives her a spiel about how Difficult it is, but really, her fantasies were pretty grounded-in-reality already. i jsut think thats how she is, yknow?)
Shes the first person to react to the whole “we see monsters” shit with a kind of “oh, okay. neat” kind of response lmao
John and Dave fix whatever the fuck is up with her town (maybe that’s where the Korrok shit can fit, who knows) and Amy ends up being integral to that. After, she insists they take her with them because “they need her now” and Dave just cant really say no. John too is very much "the more the merrier!" and hes actually glad to have another person along he loves people lmao
At the start she has long hair but after she joins them she chops it short with a knife for convenience
also she still is an amputee. justt. idk. it was a wagon/stagecoach accident rather than a car accident lmao. just to clarify since i hadnt mentioned it, i wouldnt rob her of her ghost hand or yknow. all of the significance to her character that Missing A Hand has. although also now im going to have to research what was used as painkillers way-back-when, but im betting shes still got, like, her pain pills, they probably had those, maybe i wouldnt have to try too hard there. old timey medicine could be WACK though,
Shitload
Yeah hes in tthis shit mostly cause i liked designing his cowboy self lmao
Hes a kid (like 16, 17, technically i think in those days that was more Young Man than Kid but whatever. Hes Young i mean.) who got possessed by the Worms out in the desert and, by his family’s perception, just went missing!
Hes also a wanderer, but he ended up at the same town john and dave met in, at that same time, and starts following them after, already aware of who/what they are.
He keeps his face covered 24/7. actually he covers a Majority of his self for reasons. kinda want him to be a slightly more horrifying Worm Entity rather than human idk,
I kinda dont have much for this boy yet sorry Shitload
images !
Tumblr media
with some editing notes for me cause im doing a very specific aesthetic with this lmao. i might change some lil details/colours though ...... idk
Tumblr media
im also kinda 🤔 about shitload's colour palette. i want things assoicated w the sauce to be black'n'red predominantly but i think his palette might mirror dave's too closely. also im working on a korrok design i jsut am too busy to draw it now

Fire Keeper: Chapter 20
Douxie x fem reader
Masterlist in Bio!
Series Summary: You are Jim’s older sister who is taking a break from college and has moved back home to Arcadia. You end up joining Jim and his friends on their adventures.
Chapter 20 summary: Battle of Killahead time.
Douxie made sure to heal your hand before you arrived to see the trolls. You supposed he wanted to make a good impression on your brother and you having your hand burned wouldn’t help him.
You went through Claire’s shadow portal and stepped into a stone cave. Jim and Callista were there and so was...Vendel. You froze in the middle of the portal and Douxie bumped into you as he came through.
“What’s wrong? Douxie asked, half leading you half carrying you away from the portal.
“That’s Vendel,” you whispered, tears already pricking your eyes.
You didn’t have the time to explain more as Claire popped in. “Hey, that's my boyfriend you're operating on!”
Vendel jumped “Oh! Humans! Sound the alarm!”
You heard a faint swoosh as Arthur came through the portal. “Hold! Please, Vendel of Dwoza. I humble myself before you. Camelot needs your help.”
“And why should we help Camelot?” Vendel asked, side eyeing you as tears rolled down your face. They weren’t tears of sadness or joy at seeing himd, you weren’t really feeling any exact emotions, you were just overwhelmed. Seeing your late mentor in the past could do that to you.
“-Camelot has been devastated,” Arthur was saying and you realized you had zoned out, just staring at Vendel through your tears.
Vendel sighed “Perhaps we could talk about this in a more private setting?”
“Of course,” Arthur said and Vendel led him away. You followed them out into a bigger room where Vendel and Arthur stood by a wall to discuss while a ring of knights guarded them. It made sense to have guards, but unfortunately they weren’t just guarding, they were keeping you and your friends from hearing the conversation.
Douxie kept his arm wrapped around your shoulder in silent support as you tried to listen.
Gumar the Black's swarm of Gumm-Gumms are ready to strike. The monsters seek vengeance on both our kind,” Arthur pointed out.
“And after all you've done, you expect us trolls to fight in this war for you?” Vendel asked, jabbing a figure at Arthur.
Arthur shook his head. “No, not for me; with me, as equals.”
“Glorkus me!”
“I vow, if we win this war, we shall live in peace.”
“Gumm-Gumm's are terrifying warriors while we are but humble gravel miners. How do you expect us to ever defeat Gunmar?”
“We will give you a secret weapon,” Arthur said.
Jim came up behind you. “You really think they can work this out?”
You and Douxie turned to face him. “They have to, or everyone in Camelot and Dwoza are doomed.”
“Then so is saving history. Great,” Claire grumbled.
“I assure you, all will be fine once I've completed my amulet,” Merlin promised as he walked over to your little huddle. “So, this is the once and future Trollhunter I've heard of. May I have a word, alone?”
Jim shrugged. “Um, sure. Be right back.”
You let go of Douxie to give him a quick hug. “I’ve missed you.”
“I’ve missed you too, and it seems that there are some things I missed out on,” Jim said, looking at Douxie.
“I’ll explain everything later,” you promised as Jim walked away. You moved back over to Douxie, but decided to face away from Arthur and Vendel. Everytime you looked at your old mentor all you felt was a heavy crushing sensation in your heart and lungs. It felt like you couldn’t breath at times.
You had lost Vendel in such a horrible way and at such a horrible time. It killed you inside that you couldn’t warn him of Usurna’s treachery without fear of messing up history.
You recalled when you had first met him, you had snapped at him when he didn’t believe your brother would be a good Trollhunter and after you had calmed a little he had offered an apprenticeship to you. You hadn’t been onboard with having Véndel as your teacher, but he grew on you, the two of you had just gotten off on the wrong foot. And from there he grew into a father figure for you, just as Blinky had for Jim. He had always been a silent supporter of yours, encouraging you in your practice of magic.
You were once again snapped out of your musings by Claire. “I think they’re done talking, we should go discuss what’s gonna happen next,” she suggested and the four of you walked over there. “Hey, is everything okay? What are you talking about?”
Jim glanced nervously and guiltlily between you and Claire. “Oh, um... nothing. Just Merlin prepping me for the trip home.”
Douxie smiled. “Wait, wait, wait, you finally finished the Heart of Avalon? It's working?”
Merlin nodded “Indeed. But first, we must survive the battle to come.”
“Wizard,” Arthur called, interrupting any further conversation. “We've reached an agreement. Now you must convince the crowd.”
You and your friends stayed on the ground while Arthur and Merlin went up to a rock balcony that looked over an area of Dwoza. It was interesting how much cozier it was here than in the other Trollmarkets which were much more open concept. You would have enjoyed exploring it more had you not had other more important things to do.
“Trolls of Dwoza, hear us now!” Vendel called.
Arthur cleared his throat. “As we speak, death comes for us all. But we bring an offer of hope.”
Douxie grinned at you and opened the time map. “Here comes the light show.” A string of golden sparks flew out of it and around the room before converging into a bright ball. The ball glowed brighter before becoming a large projection of the amulet. It flew across the room where another projection appeared, showing Killahead Bridge. The Amulet found its place on the bridge and a portal opened up, consuming projections of gumm-gumms.
“I've designed a grand weapon, an amulet which will choose the greatest warrior among you to banish the Gumm-Gumm menace from our realm and become the Trollhunter!” Merlin announced. You cringed when you saw how the crowd of trolls reacted to the name.
“The amulet's power will activate Killahead Bridge, once a border between our worlds, turning it into a magic prison for Gunmar and his brood, trapping them in the Darklands and ending this war!” Arthur explained, trying to call attention back to the main goal.
“I, Draal, Dwoza's strongest, shall be chosen for glory!” Your head snapped up when you heard that voice. You couldn’t believe Draal was there too. He seemed just like himself, trying to earn the amulet. You felt more tears pool in your eyes when you remembered what had happened to him. He was yet another person you could not warn of future events.
You glanced over at Claire and Jim and you saw that their eyes were misty too. Douxie came over and wrapped his arm around you again gently wiping away a tear that had slipped out. You smiled up at him and took a deep breath. You’d have to stay focused and fight to keep your time together in the future intact.
“The battle will not be easy. While the wizard builds this am-yoo-let, the king's men will train our bravest,” Vendel announced.
Lancelot stepped forward. “Indeed. I shall guide the-“
Steve jumped on Lancelots back, startling the knight and making you laugh to which Douxie responded by looking at you with pure adoration in his eyes. “Yeah! Knights Steve and Lance here to whip you big hosses into warriors! Krav Maga! Turtle stance! Whoo! Ah! Hee-yaw!” Steve yelled, earning more laughs and a few cringes from you and Douxie.
Arthur ignored Steve’s outburst. “Then we ride for Killahead to draw Gunmar out.”
With those final words everyone cheered.
~~~~
“Well, it seems we may have a shot at surviving this after all,” Archie said as you walked through a hallway.
“One shot is the best I can offer. When Killahead activates, it shall unleash a surge of magic across the realm,” Merlin explained coming up behind you.
“Just enough to power the Heart of Avalon for a trip through time!” Douxie exclaimed.
“But only one, which means everything must go according to my plan. Hisirdoux, with me. I need your assistance.”
Claire smiled as Merlin left. “At least we're reunited. We'll get through this... together. Come on, I wanna take you somewhere.”
“Uh, you two take a beat. Merlin and I have still got to actually finish the amulet all our hopes are riding on,” Douxie said going off after Merlin.
You hesitated, trying to decide which way to go. It didn’t seem like Merlin needed you and Jim and Claire were going on an impromptu date.
Douxie turned to look back at you. “Coming, love?”
“I’m actually gonna stay here and train. Good luck with the amulet,” you said and Douxie nodded.
“I’ll meet you when you're done.” He gave a wave goodbye and you went your separate ways.
You made your way to the training grounds and looked for a sparring partner however all the trolls declined, so you went and found yourself a rock.
You hummed to yourself as you practiced your swordsmanship and spells. For a years worth of Magic practice you were quite good if you did say do yourself. You had learned so many new things and you were so proud of yourself.
You leapt into the air, using your magic to push you up and sent a fire spell down at the rock. The spell hit the rock and it lit up with magical flames.
You waved your arms, calling the orange fire back to you and got ready to attack in another way. However, a tap on your shoulder interrupted you. You jumped, startled and whirled around only to find Douxie there. Your eyes were immediately drawn to the staff he was holding.
“Hey there, darling. How’s practice going?” He asked, an excited smile on his face.
“‘How’s my practice going?’ You got your staff! That’s so cool! You totally deserve it.”
“I-yeah.” He looked away from you and you could see that he was still holding himself to impossible standards. You moved closer to him.
“Hey, don’t give me that look you are such a great wizard.”
He leaned down to kiss you. “I guess I’m pretty excited.”
“‘Pretty excited,’” you scoffed. “You had such a big smile on your face when you walked in here. You are way more than ‘pretty excited’.”
“Fine I’m really excited and I can’t wait to use it. It’s gonna be nuclear.”
“I bet.”
Your conversation was cut off from stretching into the topic of the battle when Archie called for you guys, “Merlin is ready to reveal the amulet!”
“Coming!” You called back. Douxie offered you his arm and you took it as you made your way to the cozy little meeting room.
“Today, the amulet will choose one of you to defend your people, to hunt these trolls who have betrayed your kind. You will no longer fear the daylight. You will wield it as the Trollhunter,” Merlin announced and you grinned, looking about for Deya.
Callista scoffed. “Let's see which one of your brown-snouters gets picked.”
Draal stepped forward. “It would be my honor.”
Douxie looked over to Merlin who nodded. “For the Glory of Merlin... awake.”
“Whoa, whoa!” Callista exclaimed as the Amulet flew around the room, from troll to troll. You watched as it eventually settled on her.
“Rise, Trollhunter... and become,” the amulet said.
“Uh, I think your amulet has the wrong troll,” Callista protested.
Merlin shook his head and walked over to her. “No, the amulet does not make mistakes. For whatever reason, it has chosen you. Speak the incantation. Find your purpose, the savior of our worlds.”
Callista’s eyes widened. “Me? I've never been chosen for anything.” She admired the amulet and began to read the inscription. “'For the Glory of-‘“
Draal cut her off and you frowned at him. “Bushigal! It chose Callista the Calamity? She's basically a fleshbag.”
“This is the humans' big plan. The only place that outsider will lead us is death!” Another troll called.
“Ignore them. Accept this honor,” Merlin pushed.
Callista stutumbled, backing away. “No, they're right, I'm not a hero. I'm not even good at being a troll.”
“Go on, say the words!” Merlin yelled as Callista ran off.
“Cal, wait!” Jim called.
Callista briefly turned back. “I... I can't do this!”
You and your friends went to run after her, but Vendel stepped in front of you. “Is this some sick human joke? I believe you fleshbags have done enough damage.”
“We're doomed!” A troll behind you cried.
“Gumm-Gumms are coming for us and we've wasted time with your silly games!” Draal growled.
“We must hide!” Another added.
“We all must fight as allies,” Merlin argued.
Vendel scooted. “You think just because your king gives us a shiny toy, you can buy our loyalty? Leave, and take your trinkets with you!”
“The amulet chose Callista?” Archie questioned as he flew to a ledge behind Claire. You and your friends had retreated to another room after the whole scene and you were worried that things might not turn out. You took a deep breath, trying not to panic.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, wasn't Deya the first Trollhunter?” Claire asked and you nodded.
“She was, Deya the deliverer. But I never met any trolls named Deya here,” you explained.
“Either way, without one, Killahead will be a bloodbath,” Douxie pointed out.
“I think I know where Callista went. Claire?” Jim prompted and a portal opened, swallowing them.
“What about the king? Doesn't history need him at Killahead as well?” Archie questioned again. He was making a lot of good points.
Douxie nodded. “Don't worry, I'm on it.”
The two of you made your way to the surface and you looked for Arthur’s aura, you had a good idea of where to look though and you found him.
He was kneeling by the edge of the cliff where Morgana had died, his crown discarded behind him.
“You should talk to him, he might still want to arrest me,” you whispered to Douxie.
“I’m sure he’s forgotten all about that, but I guess it’s inspirational speech time,” he mumbled, walking out of the trees towards the king.
You watched with Archie, but Arthur didn’t seem to be getting cheered up.
“Maybe you should go help him?” Archie suggested and you nodded.
“Let’s hope I don’t get arrested.”
“Who are you, boy?” Arthur asked as you walked towards him.
“I am Hisir-I'm nobody.” He sighed. “History won't remember me. Stories won't be told about me, but I won't let that stop me from fighting for what is right. You are Arthur Pendragon. No matter what happens today, I know for a fact that your story will be told. But it's up to you what legacy you leave behind-- an epitaph... or a legend.”
“But who will stand with me?” Arthur asked.
“I will,” you spoke up, wrapping an arm around Douxie.
“Galahad, stands with his king!” Galahad yelled, coming up on a horse.
“I will stand with you!” Lancelot vowed.
“Sir Steve's got your back, King-o!”
“And I,” Douxie added.
“You'll need air support,” Archie called, flying around you and Douxie.
Arthur grined. “Then let Camelot be remembered as the warriors we were born.”
“Huzzah!” Everyone cheered. You looked over at the setting sun and sighed. You had read so much about the Battle of Killahead and now you were participating in it. You could only hope the outcome would be the same.
~~~~
You arrived at Killahead bridge just as the sun began to truly set. Half the clearing was shaded and the other half was light, but that wouldn’t last long. You summoned your sword and a few daggers and got ready to fight.
You stopped at the tree line and looked up to see Gunmar and his army gathered upon some rocks.
“One king cannot stand against an army, Arthur!” Gunmar taunted as Arthur stepped forward.
“It's a good thing he has an army!” Douxie countered as the rest of you came out of the trees.
“Perfect! More meat for my troops. Beserkers, tenderize them!” Gunmar roared. You watched in horror as Gunmar sent some of his soldiers to their deaths. The moved into balls and rolled down into the clearing, turning to stone once they got into the sun.
“Living cannonballs! Look alive!” Archie warned. You leapt into the air as one got near you. You looked down and winced as you saw soldiers get taken out.
“We must hold Killahead Bridge, no matter what nightmares Gunmar throws at us,” Merlin ordered.
“Arthur, I can smell your fear!” Gunmar called and you could tell that he was growing impatient.
“It's leaking out of his pantaloons!” A gumm-gumm joked and you rolled your eyes. Arthur’s aura was radiating fear, but his courage and determination almost covered it up.
Gunmar laughed. “Prepare to be crushed!”
“Knights of the Round Table, our battle cry will shake the heavens and awake the old gods to witness. Today, we say 'no more' to fear and darkness! For Camelot and glory!”
Douxie turned to you, Jim, and Claire. “I know the Trollhunter isn't here, but we are! Champions! And when I get us all home, brunch on me! For Camelot!”
“For Camelot!” You all echoed, getting ready to rush into battle.
“USA! US- uh...Cam-e-lot! Cam-e-lot!” Steve chanted.
“Hisirdoux, our fates may be uncertain, but there's one thing I am sure of—I chose you well.” Merlin gave a small smile and gently nudged Douxie.
You took a breath. “We’ve got this.”
Douxie looked at Merlin and then you, determination shined in his eyes and radiated off of his aura. “Let's show these blokes the power of wizards!”
“For Camelot!” Arthur cheered as the sun finally disappeared. You, your friends and the rest of the army charged down into the little valley and you immediately blasted two gumm-gumms, though two more took their places. It worried you that Gunmar had so many soldiers.
You leapt into the air and sent a fire spell down, cutting through the enemy lines.
“Heads up!” You heard Claire yell as she came through a portal and kicked away a gumm-gumm. The beast stumbled backwards and you sent a knife through it.
“Just in the nick of time,” Jim thanked.
Claire chuckled, but was cut short by Jim wincing. “We're getting through this... together.”
You sent a quick pain relief spell at Jim then you turned your attention away from them and towards Douxie. He and Archie were taking care of things, but as you landed another gumm-gumm came up from behind. You raced over to him and when the gumm-gumm swung your sword was there to meet him. Douxie quickly moved out of the way and you dropped your sword, sidestepped and blasted the brute in the back.
Douxie turned and blasted a gumm-gumm that ran at him and stabbed one next to it. Another leapt into the air, but before it could hurt either of you DOuxie created a blue beam that trapped it in midair. He killed it and did the same to two other gumm-gumms.
“Arch!” Douxie called when he caught more in his beam. Archie dove towards you and set fire to the beasts. “Ha, ha! Always hated those twits!”
“You’ve got to teach me that some time,” you said, leaping high into the air. You curved and dove face first towards the ground, letting gravity build your momentum. At the last second you twisted again, using magic to keep you from breaking anything, and sent a magic ripple across the ground, taking out about a dozen gumm-gumms. You swayed a bit, not expecting the toll that modified spell would take on you.
“You’ve got to teach me that,” Douxie mimicked and you smiled at him, sending daggers through the gumm-gumms that were right behind him.
“Fight on! The day isn't over yet!” Arthur encouraged. Suddenly you felt a very dark aura enter the battlefield and you looked upwards to see a portal open.
“Night has already fallen.” Morgana yelled. She raised her arms as she touched the ground. “Elemen-zath!”
A blast similar to the one you had just made, rippled through the air. “Demon witch!” Galahad cried.
Douxie looked to you. “Morgana's returned! She's enemy number one!”
“Go! We'll hold the bridge!” Jim said, looking at you.
“Hisirdoux, with me!”
You hesitated, looking between Jim and Douxie. You watched as Jim winced slightly as he moved his arm.
Douxie turned back and you made eye contact with him. “Stay with Jim!” Douxie said, giving you a quick hug.
“Stay safe,” you called back as he ran off towards Merlin. You hopped you had made the right decision as you rejoined the battle fighting alongside your brother.
“Rally, Knights of the Round! Humanity will not go quietly this day!” Arthur called. “With me! Drive them back!”
“Yeah! I ain't afraid of no creeps!” Steve cried charging back into battle.
You raced away from them as you saw a few knights almost get the better of Bular. Swords clanged as you raced past the battle, feet barely hitting the ground. When you arrived you jolted to a stop.
You could outright help Bular, you had to be sneaky. A gumm-gumm came up from behind you and you whirled to face it, an idea forming. It swung its sword at you and you created a shield to meet it. Normally the sword would have bounced harmlessly off the shield, but instead you sent yourself flying backwards, crashing into the knights that were fighting Bular. Honestly they shouldn’t have been standing so close together if they didn’t want to be used as bowling pins.
Bular roared, running off into the ranks to pick an easier fight. You contemplated going after him to make sure he didn’t die and history stayed the same, but you decided against it when you saw him join up with Gunmar.
You apologized to the soldiers and went off to help Jim and Claire fight.
You took down gumm-gumm after gumm-gumm, even trying out the spell you had seen Douxie do. Though the spell you used most was your fire spell, it seemed to do the most damage and could hurt more gumm-gumms.
A blast of Excalibur’s magic radiated through the battle ground and you used the excess to try your spell again. You flew into the air twisted and hit the ground again, sending off another strong blast. Your orange magic turned many gumm-gumms to stone, but there was always more, just as there had been when you were fighting Angor Rot and his golems.
Your celebration was cut short however when the ground shook and a wave of heat hit you.
“The Arcane Order? They're here?” Claire cried.
“We may have come to the end of days! Charge!” Galahad ordered and you had to admire his bravery. You ran to face them with the knights and when one sent a fire spell towards the knights you put up your arms. The force of the spell sent you backwards, but you held your ground. You grunted and sent the flames back at the order, careful not to hurt Nari. She may have been bad now, but you understood that in the future she changed.
More knights rushed to take on the order and you fell back to help Jim.
“Y/n, give me a boost!” Jim called. You sent a wave of Orange magic towards him and he leapt into the air, coming down behind a line of gumm-gumms. They didn’t even have time to react before Jim turned them to stone.
You took care of any behind him, sending daggers at them.
“Y/n!” Claire warned and you whirled around to see some of the monsters charging at you. Before you could react, Claire sent you through a portal and you landed on top of a gumm-gumm’s shoulders. You blasted his two friends and flipped off of him, twisting in the air and performing your spell. The blast radiated around you and you immediately moved to fight more.
You sent spell after spell, fighting alongside Claire and Jim and occasionally Steve. You all watched each other's backs. You mimicked the beam spell Douxie did earlier, turning a gumm-gumm to stone
Suddenly Morgana’s aura was back and you snapped around shocked to see her completely unharmed.
“Brother! We have some unresolved issues,” she hissed.
Arthur stumbled back. “Sister? You're alive? Stop this! Our blood is the same.”
Morgana called. “Is that so? Then let's spill some of yours and make sure!”
You raced to Arthur, ready to take on Morgana yourself. You didn’t know what had happened to Merlin, Douxie, and Archie, but it was the unknown that scared you.
You watched as a golden light brought Arthur to his knees. “You were right. It is like you said.” He dropped Excalibur and you got ready to shield him if necessary. “We are all the same. I have wronged you, as I have all creatures in my realm. I now fight to save them from the violence I have sown. This carnage, these deaths, we can end this.”
Morgana hesitated and you slowed to a stop too. “This-this is a lie. A trick!”
Arthur shook his head. “No, this is our redemption. I should have listened to you.”
While you had been ready to guard against Morgana, what you hadn’t anticipated was the arcane order to teleport in and end him.
“Brother! No!” Morgana cried.
“Merlin's puppet is gone. Go finish it! Show us your loyalty, Morgana!” The fiery one ordered and you tensed ready to fight Morgana.
Her hands glowed gold and a blast radiated through the air as she let out an anguished wail.
“What have you done with Douxie!?” You asked, send a blast towards her. It hit her, sending her backwards, but she didn’t fall.
“What does it matter?” She asked, sending a blast towards you. You leapt into the air, ready to dodge it and pounce on her, but when you hit the ground she had disappeared.
You looked around for her, but she was nowhere. Panic and fear for Douxie and Archie coursed through you as you made your way back to Claire and Jim at an inhuman speed.
You jumped into their battle and took down five gumm-gumms, your anger and fear giving you the power.
“My king!” You heard Galahad cry and you looked over to see Arthur was no longer giving off an aura.
“Their king is dead! Leave no survivors,” Gumar ordered.
With that the gumm-gumms seemed to get a burst of energy. They overtook you, Jim, and Claire, forcing you to your knees. You began to squirm and chant a spell, but a disgusting piece of gumm-gumm armor was shoved into your mouth. It didn’t stop you from trying though as one raised its sword to kill Jim.
You broke free and sent a blast at all of your captors, freeing you. More of the monsters came to take their place, but a horn sounded, distracting them. You looked over to see Callista.
“Hey, need some help?” She asked. “Because I brought some friends!”
“Yes! We are here to not run away!” You heard Blinky yell.
“Well said, brother!” Dictatious said.
“Let's show these glorkheads how a real troll fights! For the glory of Merlin, daylight is mine to command!”
You watched in awe as she charged. A blue glow erupted from the amulet, slightly blinding you as she ran into the valley. Her armor came onto her piece by piece as she took down gumm-gumms. She was amazing.
“Callista, glad you made it!” Jim said as you all fought some of the remaining beasts.
Callista turned to all of you after she finished. “It's Deya, actually. It always was.”
“Deya?” You all echoed. A smile lit up your face.
“History is on track!” You cheered, but your smile faded fast when you recalled all that had happened before Callista arrived.
You turned to Claire. “I need to find Douxie.”
“I’m on it.” A portal bloomed and you readied your sword. “Be careful, I’ll come and help soon.”
“I will, let’s just hope that they’re okay.” You took a shaky breath and jumped in.
You walked out of the portal only to be blasted with a golden beam sending you into a wall. Apparently Morgana had gone to finish her fight with the wizards and your boyfriend was okay.
With that thought you fell to the floor. The breath was knocked out of you and you laid there, trying to find the strength to get back up before Morgana realized there was another magic user in the room.
“She's too powerful! We have no choice but to seal her away!” Merlin yelled.
“I know. I'll try to buy some ti-“ Douxie was cut off and you felt heat radiate through the room.
Morgana laughed. “Oh, shame! Little Douxie finally gets his staff, just in time to die with it!”
You finally gathered the strength to get up, your fear for Douxie once again consuming you. THankfully you noticed him lying on the ground on the opposite side of the room. Merlin had pushed him out of the way.
You took some deep breaths and created a shield around yourself. You watched as the fire cleared away, revealing Merlin to be in chains. Morgana charged and began to fight Douxie. He met her every move, countering her, but you didn;t know how long he’d be able to hold her off.
“You can't even wield it! You should stick to your usual tricks.” Morgana taunted and you realized that while she was distracted by Douxie, you could go free Merlin.
“Use the power of your staff! Make it your own!” Merlin encouraged Douxie as you came up to him. You put a figure to your lips to quiet the old wizard as you worked to undo the chains.
You carefully peaked around him to watch the battle and you were rewarded with the sight of Douxie’s staff transforming into an electric guitar. He raised its tricking Morgana in the face.
The witch stumbled backwards. “What?!”
Douxie admired the guitar. “Bleeding balroths! This is nuclear!”
Morgana put a shocked hand to her face. “Did you just strike with a-a lute?”
Douxie shook his head. “Uh-uh-uh-uh. No, uh-uh. Spellcaster guitar, darling.” He strummed it. “Needs tuning, though.”
Merlin groaned. “I meant make it your own weapon!”
“Well, this is technically an 'axe',” Douxie joked, earning a silent chuckle from you. He began to play more.
“Hisirdoux, this is no time for dreadful music!” Merlin scolded.
“Dreadful?” Douxie scoffed.
“Absolutely infernal,” Morgana agreed and you were tempted to reveal yourself to compliment Douxie’s music, but you thought better of it. You’d make sure to do it later though.
“No worries, this is just the opening track!” Douxie said, playing louder.
“What do you hope to do? Blow out our eardrums?” Merlin asked and you whacked him.
“Stay quiet,” you hissed as you got to the last bit of chain. “You don’t want Morgana to know I’m here.
“Well, pardon me if this rock is too freakin' awesome for your medieval sensibilities!” Douxie countered and you laughed, forgetting you were supposed to be silent. Thankfully Merlin covered it with a cough.
Morgana held up her staff. “Enough of your noise!”
Morgana sent a beam of golden magic at Douxie who tried to counter, but you could see him struggling. “And...nope. Plan B,” he yelped, jumping down.
As they fought Morgana overpowered him and you watched as Douxie fell. Morgana sent a blast at Douxie who shielded himself, but he was quickly thrown against the wall, barely able to keep himself safe.
“Do not fret, Merlin. You'll find a new apprentice to replace him. Are people not dispensable, after all?” Morgana taunted, but her celebration was premature. Archie soared towards her, blasting her with fire just as you freed Merlin. He called his staff to him and you held out your hands. You and Merlin sent blasts at Morgana, giving Douxie the time he needed.
“Archie! Arch, light me!” Douxie requested. He heard out his hands and blue fire swirled around the room, creating a ring around Morgana.
You got ready to join the fight, but the fire quickly faded to show Douxie hovering in the air with a frozen Morgana. “Hurry! I can't hold her that long!”
Merlin brought his staff down and a green symbol grew out from it, creating a circle. “You've lost yourself, Morgana! Bound to dark magic. I have no choice but to seal you away! Sigilia infractum!”
Suddenly you and Merlin were pushed back as Morgana broke Douxie’s hold. “Master!” Douxie cried, rushing to Merlin. You noticed he seemed to be bleeding shadows.
Merlin groaned. “She's too powerful! You have to finish this alone.”
Douxie nodded, standing up. He placed his own staff down and began to chant. “Sigilia infractum! Causera!”
“I will destroy you all! No matter what it takes, no matter where you go, I will end all that you love until you feel my agony!” Morgana vowed, sending a blast of magic at Douxie. You threw out your hands sending a shield to him, but before it could hit a shadow portal appeared consuming it.
“Hey! Hands off my teacher!” Claire yelled.
Morgana scowled. “I swear on your lives, I shall rise again!”
Claire scoffed. “Already seen it. You don't win. See you in 900 years!”
Douxie completed the spell and you ran over to hug him, but instead he just fell into your arms.
“Douxie!” You cried.
“Douxie! Are you okay?” Claire asked as Archie jumped onto him.
Douxie yelped as Archie started licking him. “Ugh! That's-that's disgusting!” You and Claire laughed at him.
“At least you’re safe.” You smiled.
Douxie sighed. “Well...I think we just saved history.”
“And took down a ninth-level sorceress,” Archie added.  “Merlin would be proud.”
You all looked over to see the sleeping wizard. “Yeah, if he wasn't out cold,” Claire said.
~~~~
Now that the battle was over, it was time to get your affairs in order and go home. You had mostly enjoyed your time in Camelot, but you were definitely homesick and you really missed Mao.
“Everybody, ready yourselves. We don't have much time. I'll dial us in for when we left,” Douxie said as he stood at the helm of the castle.
“But what's gonna happen when we get there? The danger we escape, it'll be waiting for us. And Jim's still hurt,” Claire reminded.
“Yeah, we need a plan or something. Can you encase Jim in the gem like Merlin did?” You asked.
Douxie looked at you and Claire, pity shining in his eyes. “Claire, Y/n, about that... Jim is-“
“Ready to face the inevitable,” Jim interjected.
Douxie hesitated. “Jim, are you sure?”
“Jim?” You and Claire asked.
Jim sighed. “Claire, the shard in...There is no cure. That's what Merlin told me earlier.”
Claire took a step back. “That's crazy! We can find something! I'll learn a spell. We can stay here.”
Jim shook his head. “If we don't all go back right now, the future won't exist. And what kind of hero would I be if I sacrificed everyone else? Not to be ironic, but we're out of time.”
“No, no, no. We can’t be out of time, you’re only sixteen,” you protested.
“Douxie, tell him! We can fix this! You can fix this!” Claire cried.
Douxie looked away from you. “I'm sorry. He's right. We must go back now, but when we do, we'll find a way to reverse this. I promised I would return you home, and I am, but the portal can only stay open for a few moments. This is our one shot. Trust me.”
Jim shook his hand and you hugged your brother tightly. You weren’t ready to let him go, but you relented and joined Douxie.
“You said to make the tough calls, old man. I hope I'm doing the right thing,” he mumbled. He hit a switch on the time map and you watched as the rings around the Heart of Avalon shifted till they were aligned, creating a bright beam of light and your portal home.
Douxie helped you to the boat and you jumped on.
Claire helped Jim over. “There has to be another way. This isn't fair!”
Jim gave a sad smile. “That seems to be a reoccurring thing with us. You sure you wanna keep dating me?”
Claire mimicked his smile. “I'd date you for a hundred lifetimes, Jim Lake.”
A tear fell and Jim wiped it away. “Hey, we'll figure this out. We always find a way to save each other.”
You and Douxie walked over to the helm and he put his staff in. “It’s gonna be okay,” he promised you.
“Man Camelot was crazy! Why don’t they ever talk about that in the history books?” Steve asked, walking to the bow and earning a chuckle from you.
You gently leaned it to Douxie as you went through the portal. “My burden to bear,” he whispered.
You shook your head. “We’ve got this. We’ll find a way to make everything right.”
Like Father Like Son: Chapter 1
Prologue
Arc 1: Chapter 1
“Ha! Your loss, brother,” Donnie crowed, holding up the complete popsicle stick with a flourish.
Read it on HERE on ao3.
Chapter Specific Warnings: no specific ones (please see the general ones listed in the prologue)
Chapter One: a Night Like Any Other
“Ha! Your loss, brother,” Donnie crowed, revealing the last complete popsicle stick with a flourish.
Leo glowered at the half of a stick that was left in his hand, his brow furrowed as he stared at the stick like it would give answers as to why it had betrayed him so. “Why did we switch to drawing sticks for pizza runs? What ever happened to a good old game of rock-paper-scissors?”
“Mikey kept losing,” Raph said, already fishing one hand around inside of their collective pizza fund’s jar. “So I figured this would be a little more… fair.”
Mikey, perched on the table next to Raph, rubbed the back of his head, his cheeks flushing a bit as he looked to the side. Raph patted him encouragingly on the head as he pulled his other hand back out of the jar, counting up the coins in his palm.
“Fair? How is this fair Donnie clearly cheated!” Leo complained, jabbing an accusatory finger in Donnie’s direction. “Look at that- that look on his face! He clearly did something!”
“I would never.” Donnie crossed his arms, raising one of his sharpie eyebrows in mock hurt. “And, really, Nardo? You were the one holding the sticks at the start. How would you propose I even did that? Where is your proof?”
“Well, what about ordering it in? What ever happened to that?” Leo pressed, waving his hands around in large, dramatic motions.
Mikey swung his feet forwards as he slid off of the table and landed on his feet with a small bounce. “It’s a pickup special night!” he said. “We get two whole pies for the price of one!”
“And so, of course, we ordered four,” Donnie deadpanned, typing something into his wrist watch. “Now, if you please, I estimate the pizza will be out of the oven in exactly eighteen minutes based on the last twenty times we ordered it, so be on your way now. Shoo shoo, go go.”
“But- couldn’t April-“ Leo kept trying, but Raph pried open Leo’s right hand and pressed the change into his palm.
“C’mon, Leo, the pizza’s gonna get cold. We did this fair and square.” He stared at Leo, putting on his puppy eyed pleading face, and Leo couldn’t exactly say no to that look, now could he.
Leo sighed loud enough to make sure everyone heard it, but tucked the money away in his pouch. “Fine,” he grumbled. Raph patted him encouragingly on the shell as Leo passed by to head for the nearest ladder to the surface. “But I call dibs on the first slice!” he called over his shoulder. He chuckled as he heard a faint “boo” echo behind him.
Leo approached the slightly rusty ladder that lead up to the nearest sewer lid, and glanced up at it. He reached for the first rung but hesitated, considering his options.
“Actually, let’s take a shortcut,” he murmured, unsheathing his sword in one smooth motion. His reflection winked back at him as he drew the sword forwards and started to carefully draw bigger and bigger circles in the air. With a soft crackle, a blue portal snapped into existence, vibrant and brimming with energy.
The only problem was that it was too small for Leo to feasibly fit through it.
“Fine,” he sighed, sheathing his sword. The portal winked out of existence, and Leo started to painstakingly ascend the ladder. “Looks like we’re doing this the old fashioned way.”
It was late, but New York still bustled on, lights making the alleyways and corners appear that much darker. Leo remained there, in that twilight area between the human and the yokai world, with a practiced ease as he ducked into an alleyway and scaled a drainpipe to get to the roofs.
He’d never admit it, but he didn’t actually mind going on these pizza runs. Sure, it was a bother, and he could be watching the Jupiter Jim movie that Donnie had no doubt resumed watching without him right now (of course, Raph would make sure they rewatched the parts Leo missed), but it was sometimes nice to just have some space. The feeling of his feet slapping against the buildings as he jumped from one to the next, the way the moon always looked bigger and brighter at this time… even the distant screeches of the weirdest things New York had to offer, like fake wizards or a small group of mutant silverfish or even that more recent group of flat earthers. It was comforting… it was familiar.
He made it to their favorite pizza place in record time, crouching low on the opposite rooftop as he scoped out the situation inside of the pizza parlor. “Couldn’t just get Hueso’s, could they,” he muttered, squinting as he tried to spy which pizza box set out had their names on it. “Just had to make me figure out how to get the pizza from the “no mutants allowed” area.”
He spotted a stack of four boxes, one with a short word on top that maybe said either Leo or Raph; it was too far away to be sure. “Okay, this time for sure,” he muttered, drawing his sword again.
It was like a video game; wait for the waiter to pass, avoid the chef setting out more pizzas, aim, and… bingo! A blue portal popped up next to Leo and above the pizza boxes. He reached both hands in, fishing around for the edge of the boxes as he squinted against the blinding blue light suddenly right in his face. He felt the edge of the top box and followed it down, snatching the four hot boxes and pulling them against his chest. The portal started to shrink, and Leo threw the money from his pouch into it just before it vanished. They ate here far too often to be banned for dine and dashing.
It was rare to have four pizzas to carry though; normally there was just the one that they all split. Even if it was just paying for two tonight, Leo decided that dad must have been in a good mood. There was no way Raph had enough money for two pizzas stored up, they always ate through their pizza money the second they had any available. Perhaps he was just impressed that his four sons were genetically related to the movie star Lou Jitsu? That was definitely something worth celebrating.
Leo carefully picked up the four boxes, using his chin to press down on them to make sure they didn’t fall. He turned a bit, staring back at the multitudes of roof tops he now had to jump across with precious cargo. The smell of melted cheese was now heavy in the air, and his stomach growled loudly. Leo wilted, slumping over the boxes in his arms. “There has to be a better way to do this,” he said. He glanced at his sword. “What do you say? Two outta three?”
The sword, of course, did not give a response, nor did it apparently feel like going for two out of three. After waving it around and cursing it a lot, Leo had to come to the conclusion that slowly jogging back was the only way to go.
It was painstakingly slow compared to the trip over, and the smell of the pizza made it feel that much more unbearable. Leo was so caught up in making sure his packages were delivered safely, however, that he remained unaware to the presence of two small gargoyles watching him from overhead.
“Hey there!” a voice chirped, and Leo startled, nearly tipping backwards into an alleyway he had just hopped over.
He glanced upwards, eyes flicking from place to place until his gaze landed on what he was looking for. Two small little black bodies, barely held aloft by small wings, greeted him.
Leo squinted at them, perplexed. “Do I know you?”
One of them flew forwards, his sharp little face nearly touching his. “Know us? Of course you know us! We’re Huginn—“
“-and Muninn,” the other added helpfully.
“Right, right. And Muninn,” the gargoyle continued. “And we’re the official henchmen of none other than-“
“Oh, wait, right,” Leo realized. “You’re Baron Draxum’s shoulder pads!” He whirled around, completely missing the slightly offended and proud looks on Huginn and Muninn’s faces as he focused instead on scanning the rooftops while his grip on the pizza boxes tightened.
Was Draxum here? Not that Leo was scared or anything- of course not- but, well, he didn’t exactly dream of fighting murderous mutants by himself.
At this point, Leo realized the gargoyles were still talking, but it was too late to tune in now; if Draxum appeared, he wouldn’t be ideal to fight alone, especially while his stupid sword was on the fritz. The gargoyles had come closer to him now, and were hovering directly in his way. “Sorry, we’ll have a chat later; gotta go!” he shouted, shoulder checking the two gargoyles so they were sent spinning out of his way.
“Hey!” an indignant voice shouted as Leo leaped into the air, scrambling to not drop the pizzas as he dropped and rolled onto the next roof. He ended the roll clumsily on his back, rocking slightly as he skidded forwards on his shell, and had to use forwards momentum to leap back onto his feet. One pizza box slipped and he barely saved it from hitting the ground.
“What, not even a greeting? I thought you’d at least have the decency to stay and exchange a few words!” The voice was right behind him already, and Leo jolted, glancing backwards. Right. They flew, of course he couldn’t lose them so easily.
“Wasn’t he supposed to be the funny one?” the other gargoyle asked from behind him.
Leo started running again, not allowing himself to stop and catch his breath. “Wow, my brothers really ordered rush delivery,” he managed to say in between gasps. He glanced over his shoulder and winced when he saw the two keeping up with his pace. Was he out of shape? No way. It must be him trying to balance four pizza boxes while doing this.
At that thought, his eyes darted back down towards the pizza boxes, and Leo groaned as a very bad idea struck him. “Nooo don’t make me choose,” he whined, legs still pumping as fast as he could go while awkwardly holding everything. “You guys are the worst! Just for making me do this! You hear me?” he yelled over his shoulder at the two pests that were still right behind him.
He grabbed the top pizza box- sorry Raph- and threw it like a Frisbee at one of the gargoyles- Huginn, maybe? Really, they looked kind of the same to Leo. Huginn avoided it, his sharp little face grinning wider than he had already been doing. “Ha, you missed- gah!” He vanished into an alleyway beneath them, this time Donnie’s pizza acting as tribute.
“Haha!” Leo cheered. “Score one for the turtles! Donnie, you owed me for stealing my allowance last week anyways.” His gaze swung to the remaining gargoyle, whose eyes widened.
“Uh,” Muninn squeaked. “Can we maybe talk about this?”
The pizza box hit him in the face, and he tumbled into the alleyway after the other one. Leo paused, leaning over the edge of the building to watch Muninn crash right on top of Huginn, who had been trying to climb out of a dumpster. The force of the fall made the lid swing shut on top of both of them.
“Well,” Leo said, scratching the top of his head. “Talk about taking out the trash.” He glanced down at the remaining box in his hands. It was, not surprisingly, the box with his own name on it. “Aw man, the pizza though,” he groaned. “Maybe I overreacted to two flying rats- er, gargoyles. But they better not make me pay for it. This wasn’t my fault, obviously.” He pondered it for a moment, pacing on the rooftop before the thudding and distant cries of trapped gargoyles made him stop. He crouched down to stare at the dumpster before nodding. “Right. Well, they never need to know about this. If I just say that maaaybe there was like, eight bad guys, or- or maybe even Baron Draxum himself, they won’t even be able to be mad! It only makes sense that I had to make sacrifices!”
“Oh, well, in that case, maybe I can help you out.”
Leo reacted immediately, his hand shooting to his sword’s hilt as he unsheathed it and whirled to face Draxum behind him in one fluid motion. The yokai stared down at him, a smirk on his face, as he stepped down off of the purple roots that had lifted him onto the rooftop.
“I came here to ask you-“
“Absolutely not, I am not facing you on a rooftop again,” Leo interrupted. He glanced down at the last pizza. “Sorry,” he whispered, before he wound his arm back and hurled the box at Draxum’s face. Clearly a pizza box assault was the last thing he was expecting, because the yokai just stood there and took the corner of the box right in between his eyes. The box crumpled and opened just enough for gooey cheese to cover his face, and more importantly, his eyes.
Leo didn’t wait another second; he took off again, gripping his sword tightly as one hand fished around in his pouch for his cellphone. He furiously punched in the numbers and held the phone up by his earhole. “C’mon Raph, pick up the phone, pick up the phone, pick up the phone.” There was a moment where the ringing dial tone continued before Raph’s voice answered.
“Raph! Quick, I need- aaaaand that’s a recording,“ Leo realized as the pre-recorded message he had heard so many times continued. “Why didn’t I call Donnie? He’s the one always glued to his technology, Raph sometimes forgets to charge- whoAH HEY THAT’S NOT OKAY,” he yelped, skidding to a stop as purple roots burst from the cement right in front of him.
His momentum lost, his arms pin wheeled furiously as he attempted to turn and keep going. The roots shot towards him, and he jumped, landing on one before hopping onto the next. A grin grew on his face as he realized that he just had to keep moving, and he did a flip in the air before gracefully landing on the next one. “Annnd he sticks the landing!”
There was a cracking sound, and Leo’s face froze as his phone fell apart with a small tinkle of scattering glass and electronics. A smaller root had spearheaded his phone from behind, puncturing a perfect hole through the center.
“Wha- this was the worst welcome reception I’ve ever experienced!” Leo wobbled as the roots shifted, Draxum appearing just above him on another root. The yokai flicked off the last string of cheese from one of his horns, face almost expressionless as he stared down at Leo.
“There’s nowhere to run,” Draxum said, a smug smile finally crossing his lips. “Now, why don’t you make it easier for both of us and just come along quietly?“
Leo’s eyes darted towards his sword. “Oh, is that what you think?” he asked. “Because I’m just getting started!” He jumped, bringing the sword down on Draxum, who blocked it with one armored arm with ease. His orange eyes narrowed, and Leo had just enough time to brace himself before he was sent hurtling backwards, skipping across building tops like a pebble across water.
Leo finally stopped when he hit an advertising billboard with a cracking sound, denting the metal and sliding down into a seated position. The familiar sound of cars and chatter cut off, a loud ringing sound filling Leo’s head instead. He blinked a few times, opening his eyes to stare up at the clear night sky. To the rest of New York, it was just a night like any other, but right now... “Ugh,” he groaned, pressing one hand to his temple. He felt sick and dizzy, and through a blurry gaze he could see Draxum gliding towards him on his roots. Leo tried to stand, but his legs shook, and the urge to throw up only seemed to grow with each movement. He wobbled, and had to use his sword as a crutch to prop himself up. “I knew fighting him up here was a bad idea,” he muttered.
Through the ringing, Draxum’s voice took on a sinister tone, the yokai approaching Leo slowly, as a cat cornered its prey. “That wasn’t very impressive, was it?” he asked. He tilted his head, raising an eyebrow at Leo. “Want to try that again?”
“No,” Leo managed to get out, leaning against the bulletin board. “But I am willing to try this.” With a shaking arm he used his sword to draw a circle in the air between him and Draxum. The portal burst into life, small, but not small enough that it wouldn’t work. For once, Leo didn’t even care if he got the destination right; he just moved, only able to focus on getting away.  He dived through the portal, arms outstretched as he made a last ditch desperate attempt to get the hell out of dodge. And, for a second, he thought he made it, the familiar sewer air kissing his face as he made it through the portal. He even managed to portal home, too, with what felt like a concussion on top of everything else going on. His brothers would be impressed once they hear about his adventurous night out, Leo thought, woozy but pleased.
He turned to watch the portal snap shut, but then he felt it- a hand on his ankle, nails digging into his skin, a grip tightening and tightening until it hurt and with his already bad balance Leo was easily being yanked backwards, the sword clattering to the floor besides him, and he was being pulled back through his own portal-
He scrambled blindly at the floor, searching for something to grab onto, but he couldn’t reach anything; he needed help-
Where is everyone-
This is bad bad bad-
“Guys?!” Leo yelled, kicking at the hand. He saw stars. “Anyone? Da-!”
And the portal disappeared, almost as if it had never been there.
Only a sword remained, forgotten on the sewer floor.
Does Big Bro!Mikey AU have an april or no? I think it would be nice for Mikey to have a bff april!!
April is a part of this au, yes! She started out as just a classmate of Mikey’s, they had the same homeroom in high school before Mikey dropped out the summer before his Junior year. They hadn’t really kept in contact, mostly because she only knew him by proxy (Mikey was nice and friendly to everyone, April of course included, but they didn’t have much in common, and their main friend groups were different, so they didn’t hang out much) and when Mikey all but disappeared without an explanation, she kinda just figured he moved or something, and left it at that, not giving him any thought for the next three years.
That is, until she meets him again, in the halls of Hunter College, looking like he was gonna collapse at any minute, which he kinda does, into an empty bench at the schools outside cafe and lounge area. April waffles for a few seconds, because ‘holy shit is that Mike Hamato?’ before biting the bullet and making her way over to say, “Hey, Michael right? Hi, it’s been a while. It’s April, we had homeroom together freshman and sophomore year. I haven’t seen you since Savanti Romero’s pool party. How are you?” And his smile is a slow, automatic thing at first, more out of common politeness than anything else, but then it grows into something much more genuine and glacier melting when he responds back, “April, hey, yeah, hi! Wow, has it really been that long? Man, it seems like just yesterday you were fishing Mondo and me out of the pool after one too many chicken fights. It’s good to see you!”
And catching up seemed so easy, April was almost surprised they hadn’t been better friends in high school. Though, she suspected that was mostly due to Mikey’s incredibly easy charm and naturally inviting warmth. (Dude could make friends with just about anyone)
He was a little different than how she remembered, a little more weather-worn and tired, a kinda weariness that hung off his shoulders like heavyweights. But there was still a bright shine to those penny-colored eyes, and when he smiled, it was with all the dimples and joy that she remembers so clearly from when she was 15. Holding back a laugh at the Hamato kid that was preforming springing handstands across the cafeteria just to draw attention away from the impending fight between two of their more hotheaded classmates and ease the tension out of the air in a ridiculous but effective manner.
She doesn’t ask why he left high school, it doesn’t really occur to her to ask, but after 2 hours of talking (April not even realizing she was missing her history class because she was so caught up in their catching up) he offers the information anyway.
His dad died. When he was barely 16, and he was left alone with 3 baby brothers and no other family that could help take care of them, and oh my god, he just dropped out of school to get his GED like it was the most common thing in the world and he went to work, what, 2, sometimes 3 jobs just to make enough money to support them all and April didn’t mean for tears to start pooling up because that so wasn’t fair to Mikey at all, if anyone should be crying, it should be him, but Mikey just looks a little shy and bashful about it all. “It was hard, but we got through it. And hey, now I’m working at like, this really prestigious Italian restaurant, super classy and everything! And they pay me more than I’m probably worth, but I’ll get my culinary degree in like a year, and then after that, a lot of things will change,” He says like everything in the world is just that easy, handing April a few tissues from his book bag and giving her one of those genuine, if not a little crooked, smiles of his.
Mikey promises to have lunch with her again (because April absolutely refuses to let this dandelion haired lunatic walk away from her life a second time and practically demands that they hang out again) since they both have the same free time before their respective classes at the college, and makes a show of saving her number with probably a few too many emojis as a contact name just to make her smile.
And what turned into a promise for another lunch date turned into almost a daily routine, them having lunch together on the bench, talking about classes and teachers and jobs and April’s problematic little kitten she affectionately named Mayhem and Mikey’s little brothers who are probably equally as problematic but he doesn’t have a say in what their names are, and things are fun and casual between Hamato and her.
That is, until two months later, when April gets a call from Mikey at 5pm on a Saturday.
“Donnie’s sick,” Mikey says almost breathlessly, and even without the context, April was already springing to her feet just at the sheer tension and concern in Mikey’s voice, like a taught wire about to snap. “I can’t get off work for another few hours, but I don’t want to leave him by himself with a fever. And I know this is like, putting you on the spot and really awkward and you can totally say no if you want to, but I don’t know who else to call and,-”
“Mike, it’s ok. Breathe hun,” April is saying, not unkindly pushing Mayhem off her lap and reaching for her backpack off the floor in her dorm room, stuffing a few random things in it before grabbing her jacket and her car keys off the counter. “Text me your address. I’ll be over there in 5 minutes tops.”
And it’s more of a promise than a fact, because his building is technically 20 minutes away from hers, but April makes it in 10 just by spite alone (and maybe driving a little recklessly downtown) and knocks on the door of the little apartment on the 6th floor, unit 404.
It takes a hesitant second, but then the door lock clicks open and April is greeted by warm brown eyes and a freckled face that reminds April so much of Mikey that it takes her almost a full 10 seconds before she introduces herself with an automatic smile. “Hi sweetheart, I’m April. I’m a friend of your older brother Mikey.”
Raphael, if April remembered Mikey’s brothers correctly, didn’t really need much convincing to let April in after she mentioned he was a friend of Mikey's, and doesn’t hesitate to pull her into their little apartment, leading her to the bedroom that the twins share with a small but tight little fist around hers.
“Mikey called and said you were coming. Leo’s atah sleepover, but Donnie’s in here. His head’s still hot and his voice is all scratchy, even though I made sure that he took the medicine Mikey left out. And he won’t eat anything I give him,” the 7-year-old reports diligently, much more mature than April had expected from the young child.
April’s been babysitting since she was 11, and considering how all the neighborhood kids around her block adore her, she likes to think that she’s got a pretty solid Ph.D. in knowing how to take care of a sick pre-teen who wants nothing to do with her. So the heavy-lidded and red-eyed glare that Donatello shoots at her from under his covers is duly noted but otherwise ignored as she gently knocks on the door and slowly follows a much less hesitant Raphael into the bedroom.
It takes a while, a long while, for Donatello, no, Donnie, to warm up to her, but he gets there eventually, with the help of Raphael, Raph, who’s hanging off of Aprils shoulders, having warmed up to her almost immediately simply because ‘any friend of Mikey’s is a friend of ours Dee! Don’t be mean and eat some soup!’
After realizing that Donnie just had a little cold, and was in no real danger even with a fever, Raph seemed to cheer up immensely, and was more than willing to help answer all of April’s questions about what medicine Donnie had taken, any allergies, the last time he ate, and even helped her make some egg drop soup since they didn’t have enough ingredients of chicken noodle, which Donnie put up a fight about, but eventually took after one look of Raph’s puppy dog eyes.
Donnie was out like a light 15 minutes later, after taking some night time cough medicine and April sent a reassuring text to Mikey two hours later when his fever finally broke, to which Mikey replied with an explosion of heart emoji’s that April couldn’t rightly decipher other than he was happy about it.
Mikey got home at 11 that night, and April had to flag him down quietly from where she sat trapped under a sleeping, pj clad Raph on the couch; a Jupiter Jim movie marathon playing on the tv.
“Thank you so much, April,” Mikey said to her in the kitchen 20 minutes later, handing her a cup of hot tea. He had efficiently plucked Raph off of April’s lap like a pro with years of experience, putting him into his own bed before checking on a still sleeping Donnie, whose face was no longer a burnt red from his fever earlier. “I don’t know what I would have done without you. I don’t get my paycheck till next week, so I can’t really pay you right now, but I brought home some chocolate mousse cake from my work that you can have until I can-” “You didn’t tell me you worked at Huesso’s!” April didn’t shout, because there were two kids sleeping down the hallway, as she grabbed the bag Mikey had offered to her. “Dude, their deserts are like, crazy good! I love their cheesecake, but they’re stupid expensive and you have to get a reservation like, 4 months in advance to get in.” And April uses the change in topics as a distraction because there was no way she’d let Mikey try to pay her for helping out, she didn’t even want that to be an option. April didn’t do this for the money. She wanted to help out Mikey out. She liked Mikey. She thought he was funny and charming and had a heart big enough to cradle the entire world if he was as big as all the love he has. And she adored being around his baby brothers.
April grins at Mikey when she opens the box, and slides her finger over the glossy frosting of the cake and licks her fingers of the chocolatey goodness before she says, “Listen, if I could convince you to bring me home deserts from this place, then I’ll hang out with the boys anytime you want me too. You have my number, literally call me anytime, for any reason, and I’m here.”
My Leather Guy
Summary: Bucky has to make things right, even if it means losing you.
words: 1935
Warnings: none... a little bit of Smut... (but if you find any please let me know)
Pairing: Biker!Bucky x Reader.
A/N: This was made with love for @saiyanprincessswanie !!! My prompt was “Nice ass” / “it´s all yours”
Hey guys! <3 my mother language is not English, so if there is any mistake please help me to improve. Also, my work is not allowed to be on other platforms. Just comment, like and reblog <3
Tumblr media
Bucky kisses your lips for the last time to see you leave for the club stairs that lead straight to the rooms upstairs, with a sigh he turns around to see his best friend Steve and almost friend Tony at a table watching him expectantly.
Bucky knows their faces too well to know what they want answers to their questions, today would be the sixth time you've stayed with them in less than two weeks. The problem wasn't that you stayed, they loved you, the real problem was that you lied to your father who was also the leader of one of the New York City motorcycle clubs.
"I hope you got it right this time Bucky," Tony says as he brings his beer to his lips but stops halfway through. "That you stood in his driveway like a decent man" as the silence drags on Steve lets out a big sigh.
"He escaped out the window again?" Steve asks what Bucky nods to. "Bucky... I understand that you love her I went through the same thing with Natasha... the thing is we can't get into trouble now that they've agreed to ally themselves with us to corner the Hydra club"
"If it were up to me, I would have told his father by now." Bucky interrupts.
"Does her father beat her?" Tony asks, and the blonde looks at him expectantly.
"No! It's just that she doesn't want to disappoint him."
"Bucky, you're the best man in the club-"
"Steve I'm not saying that... It's because of his mother... since his mother died his dad has made sure he doesn't follow in his footsteps" Tony and Steve look expectantly at Bucky, waiting for answers. "That doesn't end up with a biker.”
"Oh God too late!" Tony says quickly as he grabs his leather jacket on the back of his chair and stands up. "Looks like the conversation is going to get sentimental so I'll see you tomorrow" and without further ado, Tony walks away from the door.
"Look Buck... if you want some advice... You'd better go to his father and tell him" Bucky opens his mouth to say something but Steve raises a hand "Let me finish please, Hydra has been up to our asses since they got to town, they have been trying to wipe out our business and theirs. If he finds out you're sneaking around with her daughter and goes crazy and finishes the deal; we'll be in danger, not just us as a club, but our partners as well"
A few minutes later Bucky thoughtfully climbs the stairs, what Steve was saying was true, he was putting the whole group, no, his family in danger with his selfishness and that could not continue to happen. When he got to the door of his room a soft humming could be heard through it, when he opened the door he found himself with y/n with his headphones lying on her stomach in bed with his back to the door, his pajama shorts barely covering his ass and he was wearing one of Bucky's t-shirts to sleep, closing the door to lean on it, Bucky simply watched his girlfriend and how much he was going to miss being with her once they told your father.
Feeling a change in the air y/n realizes that she is not alone, turning quickly in bed she sees her boyfriend leaning on the door, she smiles but her smile does not last long because of the look in Bucky's eyes. y/n knows that something is wrong.
"What's wrong, love?" she quickly gets out of bed to go to her boyfriend.
"We have to tell your father"  I knew that this day would come, I knew that the moment those words came out of Bucky's mouth their lives would have to go their separate ways forever.
"Tomorrow we'll both go together, I promise," hugging Bucky around the neck and he's hugging her around the waist. "Would you kiss me?" one last time she thought
Bucky's lips feel like feathers on the skin, they both know this could be goodbye and they would both make the most of it. Without rushing, they take off their clothes and throw them away so who knows which part of the room, when y/n's legs touch the bed he gently pushes it. Skin on skin meet and fireworks explode as the moaning fills every corner of the room.
In the large double bed, they try to calm their breaths, both have their heads full of possible scenarios of what could happen tomorrow, but in Bucky's head are the most tragic.
Little whispers of 'I love you' and 'I'll always be with you' fill the room until y/n's voice is interrupted by a yawn from her, Bucky puts one arm around her shoulders and draws her as close to his body as he can.
Tumblr media
Bucky goes down the stairs with the little courage he has left in his body, when he sees the time on the wall clock he deduces that his father-in-law could be in the club's bar, without wasting any more time he goes to Steve to communicate his decision. This one is on the same table where he left it a few hours ago.
"Steve, I'm gonna go tell y/n's dad" Steve looks up from the documents to focus on Bucky.
"Give me 5 minutes and I can join you" with one hand on his shoulder Bucky stops his best friend.
"I don't think you understand me, Steve... I'll go alone," Steve looks at him not knowing what to do. It wasn't that they were afraid of Y/N's father, only that he was a man respected by many, almost a legend. "If I'm not back in three hours... you know what to do." Without saying anything else, Bucky hands Steve a sealed envelope with Y/N's name on it. Bucky always so dramatic thought Steve as he saw Bucky's figure coming out of the bar.
The road to the other side of New York was long and tense for Bucky, his Harley stopped just outside the Death and Co Bar as he took off his helmet hesitantly for a couple of seconds before grabbing what's left of his confidence and going in.
The place reeked of alcohol and cheap cigarettes, and the place was barely visible in the dim light of the tavern. In the distance, he could see a group of men in leather jackets with the symbol of the American flag on their backs.
As he approached the group of men he could quickly make out the father of Y/n, with a soft cough by Bucky the men at the table stood still and quickly looked in Bucky's direction.
"But look who we have in this fucking place... Nothing more or less than the right hand of the famous captain", your father was looking bucky in the eye who wished he was 3 miles away from that place.
"I've come to talk to you, sir," Bucky mentally kicks himself, his voice must sound firm. "Alone." Without further ado, Jim "The King" stands up from the table with a head taller than Bucky.
“Follow me”
As he leaves the bar Jim leans against the wall and pulls out a cigarette, Bucky is nervous, his hands are sweating and his breathing is labored.
"It's about my daughter, right?" Stunned Bucky doesn't know what to do or say so he just nods. "I've known all along," Bucky's soul leaves his body. "Ever since my Betty died and left me with the task of raising our daughter I always knew this day would come... I always knew you guys had something because Y/N is the spitting image of her mother, and she's not too quiet when she escapes out the window either" the latter brings a smile to Bucky's face. Jim takes his last breaths into the cigarette and drops it, putting it out with the sole of his shoes. "Your mother and I were doing the same thing you do... We were running away and lying to our parents... Come on son, let's go have some beers", without further ado Jim opens the door of the bar, Bucky perplexed, expecting everything but that, so he just follows him inside the establishment.
Two hours later Bucky finds himself saying goodbye to all the club members and heading for his bike, Jim is waiting for him at the door.
"Hey, son," unprepared Bucky feels like the right side of his face is hit with something, "This is just a precaution, okay?. If I see my daughter crying over you, the beating will be much bigger." When Bucky comes out of his trance he just nods and pats his shoulder. "Perfect!, have a good trip boy" the door of the place closes and Bucky throws a spit to throw the blood in his mouth, touching his jaw he realizes that Jim didn't manage to break anything, fortunately, but he won't be able to put the helmet on because of the swelling that is forming on his face. Was too good to be true
Upon entering the bar Bucky can see that the place is almost dead without counting Natasha who is cleaning the bar and Steve leaning on this flirting with her.
"Shit Bucky I think you lost the fight man!" Natasha tries to hold back the laughter, but she can't and Steve just shakes his head.
"Yeah, anyway... I'll see you guys in a little bit" walking up the stairs to Bucky's rooms doesn't stop thinking about how well the situation turned out, about Jim's reaction that he didn't grow up and that now they practically had a free hand so they wouldn't be hiding like two teenagers.
"What the fuck happened to your face, Bucky?!" Bucky had unwittingly entered the room and found y/n at the edge of the bed, wiping her eyes.
"I've gone to talk to your dad" without more y/n gets out of bed and throws Bucky by his wrist to the bathroom of the room, when Bucky enters he can see his reflection in the mirror, his cheekbone was already taking a purple color and his eye was swelling more and more without counting with the little cut under his eye, with a pressure in the chest y/n makes Bucky sit in the toilet while she takes out the first aid kit.
A few seconds later she finds herself delicately touching her boyfriend's face with a wet cotton ball to get the dried blood out. A little sobbing gets Bucky out of his trance and he realizes that he's screwed up, with his hands he touches his girlfriend's naked legs to somehow comfort her.
"I didn't want the three of us to talk in case it got too big, I just wanted to protect you." He whispers
"Bucky, he's my dad, he wouldn't hurt me and you know it.
"The situation could have gotten dangerous and you know it," bucky sighs, "I just want to make things right... besides, your dad already knew about us."
"What?!" y/n stops wiping Bucky's face and waits expectantly for an answer.
"He said you weren't very quiet going out the window.”
"Oh, God... What a shame" they both laugh and the atmosphere relaxes a bit.
"Does this mean I'm forgiven?"
"I'd have to think about it a little bit more" playing bucky up his hands and grabbing his girlfriend's ass through his pajama shorts.
“Nice ass”
“It’s all yours, baby”
